Chapter 32

Time calmed down a bit for Percy, and days passed with him struggling through his school work, trying to get the required length. Then, on a Sunday afternoon, just after lunch, he got a tearstained letter from Hagrid. It read:

Dear Percy

Aragog died last night. I know you haven’t met him, but you seemed do enthusiastic when we talked about him. It would mean a lot to me if you’d nip down for the burial later this evening. I’m planning on doing it around dusk, that was his favourite time of day. I know you’re not supposed to be out late, but I’m sure you will find a way. I also invited Harry, Hermione and Ron; they might be able to help you. Wouldn’t ask but I can’t face it alone.

Hagrid

He looked at Harry and motioned for him to meet him in the common room. When there, he was only half surprised to seeHermione and Ronas well. They were soon discussing if they were going down and if so, how they would get there. Eventually Harry and Percy managed to convince Hermione to go down, and after the burial, Harry would go to professor Slughorn after an unexpectedly brilliant idea, and he’d try get the memory, while Percy and Hermione went back up to their dorms, as Ron didn’t want to go, he’d hated the spider, as it had tried to feed them to it’s children.

It was soon approaching dusk, Harry had set out an hour before, so Percy and Hermione met up and used Harry’s map (They didn’t want to show Hermione that Percy had one just yet) to navigate the halls, avoidingPeeves in the stairway on the fourth floor, putting up some buckets to drop on unsuspecting students. They were silent on the way down so as to be doubly sure not to draw attention to themselves. Soon they were at Hagrid’s hut, but they were surprised to see Slughorn there with Harry.

“Hello sir, what are you doing here?” asked Hermione, startling thethree standing thereout of the revere they had been in.

“Oh, hello Ms Granger, Lord Waytr. I was out collecting some potions ingredients when I met Lord Gryffindor on his way to see Hagrid, as I couldn’t leave him alone, even to visit a teacher, I followed along. May I askwhat you’redoing here?”

“Hagrid invited us along as well, Harry came down early to talk to Hagrid a bit, that’s why he was here before us.” answeredHermione, anticipating the question.

“Well, we ‘ad bes’ get on wi’ things, you lo’ shouldn’ be out to long. No’ at a time li’e this.” said Hagrid.

“Yes, yes that would be best.”
