Cassie's P.O.V.

It has been a month since Rebekah left. I was so mad that I didn't get to say goodbye and wish her all the best for her new life. She deserved to leave. To be free. I was still in the bayou with Hayley, which had gotten too crowded, considering that the curse on her pack was broken. That bitch Celeste did something right among the horrible things she did. I had no connection with Klaus or Elijah and I pretty much preferred and tried to stay out of everyone's way here. A plus on the sudden overpopulation in the bayou was that I didn't have to watch over Hayley all the time. She, on the other hand, was happier than ever. Not only did she get her family back, but also she got rid of me. She spent most of her time with Jackson, the Alfa of the pack.

Currently, the male members of the pack were fighting for an unknown reason and everyone was watching amused. As I said, I tried to stay away from everything. So, here I was, sitting by that dirty lake, observing the surroundings for the thousandth time.

Jackson's P.O.V.

"You got to try Taker's ribs." I suggested, while helping to set the tables along with Hayley and the rest of the pack.

"What? Then we are going to play horseshoes?" She joked.

"Don't mock, country living, love." I replied smiling.

"Sorry. This is a lot more family fun than I'm used to." She said more serious now.

"Then, maybe I can help you get used to it." I replied honestly.

We remained silent for a while, setting the tables, when my gaze fell on the redhead girl that was protecting Hayley for all these months. She was sitting quietly by the shore of the lake, with her legs folded in front of her chest and her gaze never leaving the scenery, despite all the racket.

"She is not a very people's person, is she?" I asked Hayley. She turned to look at me, with a confused expression, which disappeared and was replaced by an expression of annoyance, once she followed my gaze.

"Why are you saying that?" She replied, annoyance now obvious in her voice, returning to her task.

"Well, since the curse was broken, she is as far from as possible. She never came to eat with us. She never even came to talk to us. She is staying here for you, obviously, but I don't know why she is not trying to make her staying more... you know... pleasant."

"Maybe she shouldn't." I stopped what I was doing and turned to look at her in astonishment. "What?" She asked raising an eyebrow.

"You don't like her, do you?"

"Why should I?" She retorted.

"Well, she put her life in danger for you and your child. I don't see why you would dislike her..." She sighed.

"Look, I know what she has done for me and honestly sometimes I like having her around, because I feel safer. But, I don't like her. She is... She is just annoying me. She constantly follows me like a dog. I'm glad she keeps her distance. And I hope she does so, from now on..." I shook my head still not understanding. But, if Hayley said she didn't like her, well, that was her choice and I had to respect it.

After everything was ready, I took a plate and filled it with some food. Despite everything Hayley said, I still believed she shouldn't be this isolated. So, I took the plate and went outside heading to her direction. She was so focused on what she was looking at, that she didn't realize my presence, until I spoke up.

"Hello to you too." She jumped a little, taken aback and turned her gaze on me.

"Hi." She said simply. "I brought you dinner." She looked at the plate for one moment and then back at me.
