Carlos hated the term "friends". He had a lot of friends, that's for sure, and he was very grateful for all of them. And yet when that goddamn word left Juliette's lips it was like a thousand tiny knives running right through his chest.

After that incident at the Canadian GP— that would only live in Carlos's memories actually— they went for breakfast and got the chance to talk. He was glad to have her back with her charming smile and silky voice talking nonstop in a way she only did when she comfortable around someone. So he was hopeful to make amends after New York, to going back to friends, in her own words.

Damn Juliette for her cluelessness and himself for being a coward.

Carlos flew that same day from Canada to London to prepare for the next race, while Juliette stayed in Toronto for a couple more days with some friends. Still, they were constantly texting and sending each other funny pictures of their mutual friends. It was fresh and a complete new step in their relationship.

Truth was Carlos and Juliette were never truly friends. Acquaintances who knew a lot about each other and hung out with their mutual friends or worked together occasionally would be a better definition. He only gotten close to her because of Lando, after all, and they weren't as close as she was with Charles, for example— with all of inside jokes and weekends together.

Of course he was jealous of that and, still, he never had the courage enough to approach her in that way. But, for some reason, that changed that year and Carlos was more than happy with that fact. To get to know her outside of work and add up to all the details he held to himself after many years of admiring her in secrecy.

But he couldn't help to want more.

He knew that the distance would probably do a good job in stopping him from doing something stupid or making her miss him or some manipulative shit like this, but he couldn't help but be extremely excited to see her again.

Juliette would get there by Thursday morning to start the interviews, so he still had to go through the Wednesday panels and fan meetings by himself. The Ferrari driver couldn't help but zone out from time to time, since he didn't really want to be there, but eventually something caught his attention and he couldn't help but look up.

"Max, are you not smiling because Juliette Edwards from F1 World is not here?" One of the interviewers asked randomly after Max had been acting like an ass.
