Chapter 31

The organizer of the event gave a speech about Boston, all citizens and honorable people. The evening was going to be long, I noticed. Every now and then everyone sitting in the hall clapped. It took forever to get to the awards, Chris and I were always joking and giggling under our breath, my mom and his mom had admonished us several times, but we couldn't stop ourselves. "There will be a short break before we get to the awards ceremony. We'll continue in 20 minutes," said the organizer into the microphone. "Do we wanna go outside?" Chris asked. "Yes" i said. Alahna, Matt and Nick went to the toilets and our parents were talking with random people. Chris put his hand on my lower back and we walked out of the hall. "That man talks so much" I said and Chris just giggled "I can't even concentrate on what he's saying because it's so boring" I said. "I noticed" he said and stood in front of me and put his arms around my lower back, my hands stroke his forearms. I looked at his face, smiled and studied every little detail on his face. "I'm so happy with you" I said smiling "if you only knew" he said, putting his hand on my cheek and stroking my cheek with his thumb, and then brushing my hair to the side on my neck. Out of the corner of my eye I saw an older woman coming towards us. Chris and I looked away from each other and turned to the woman who was talking to us from the side. "You are the daughter of Dr. Estrella and you must be Chris Sturniolo, right?" We looked confused and nodded then "yes" we said at the same time. "Oh, I've known you since you were little children" she said, I didn't know her, had absolutely no memory. We just smiled and then she said, "You're such a lovely young couple." "Oh, we-" I started, I wanted to say we weren't together but Chris said "Thank you" he smiled. "I'm in charge of the photos here, would you like to stand there and take a photo?" she asked, Chris and I looked at each other and smiled, then got into a position. Chris stood behind me, put his arms around my stomach, I put my hands on his and leaned my back more against his upper body. "Very great" she said, "now another one" she said, I turned around in Chris's arms, smiled at him, he looked at me down, my one left hand was on his neck and the right hand on the side on the camera was on his chest. "Perfect, thank you, dear ones. We'll see each other during the event. Bye" she said, we said goodbye. When we were alone again I turned to Chris "you didn't say we weren't a couple" I said "should I have?" asked he. "No, I-" I said "before you say anything Megan-" he said but I interrupted him. "Chris, if you're not ready for something serious or want to keep it a secret, that's okay, we don't have to-" "Let me Talk Megan" he giggled, "sorry" I smiled. "You know I love you and I want everyone to know that you are mine, I want you to be mine. Do you wanna be my girlfriend Megan?" he smiled. I looked into his eyes, threw my arms around his neck and connected our lips together. In between the kiss I whispered "yes, chris" he smiled into the kiss, he pressed me closer to him, my hands ghosting through his hair, to his neck, to his cheeks so I could hold his face and then back to his neck again. "I love you Chris" I said when our faces were still very close to each other and we could feel our breath on our skin, he grinned and gave me a kiss on the forehead. "I don't know what you did to me" whispered he put his fingers under my chin and kissed me gently again. I couldn't do anything but smile after that kiss. He grabbed my hand and said "are we going back in?" I nodded. We entered the hall hand in hand. Alahna looked at me proudly, and we got Nick and Matt's attention too. We pushed our chairs back to sit down, But they were still standing. "Finally" said Alahna. "We thought it would never happen" said Matt, laughing gently. "What?" said Chris's dad our parents looked at us, "go ahead, say it" said Nick. "Megan and I, we're together" said Chris. "Didn't everyone know that already?" my dad asked and everyone smiled at his joke. "Well then" I said and we sat down. "It was dead obvious" Nick said. "I was pretty sure about it when Chris came home that morning and he thought I'd believe him when he said he went for an early morning walk" Marylou said. "That's such a poor excuse Chris" laughed alahna. "Was that when I brought you home?" my dad asked Chris "Dad I said you shouldn't tell anyone about it" I said in a panic "I didn't, but now everyone already knows anyway" he said
"When was that?" Alahna asked. "Our first date" said Chris "awwh that's so sweet" said Matt and got a look from Chris with his eyebrows furrowed. "You knew about them?" my mom asked with a small smile. "No, I just caught them at the door in the morning when Megan tried to smuggle Chris out.

The woman from before who took photos of me and Chris came to our table and asked if we all wanted to take pictures together. First she photographed Marylou, Jimmy, Matt, Nick and Chris. Then they wanted Alahna and me to be in the picture, Alahna stood between Nick and Matt and I stood on the outside next to Chris. He looked down at me briefly and smiled at me, putting his arm around my waist as if smiling into the camera. "Doctor" said the woman, and gestured for my parents to take a photo. Alahna and I stood next to our parents, Alahna to our mother and I to my father. When the woman took the picture, my father looked at the boys and waved her over with his hand. "One more picture with you too" he said. Nick to Alahna, Chris to me and Matt next to Chris. After this picture, my dad called Marylou and Jimmy over. It's like we're a huge family, I love it so much. "And now the adults and then you children," said the woman with a slight laugh. We stood to the side and our parents took a picture. "A triplet picture" said the woman, the boys stood next to each other. "And now you two too" I stood between Matt and Chris and Alahna between Matt and Nick. "Now the two pretty girls alone" alahna and I put an arm around each other and smiled into the camera "perfect such beautiful families" she smiled. "Thanks" my dad said with a nod of thanks. And the woman went ahead and took pictures of other families present.

"Attention pleas" came the loud microphone and the organizer's voice. "Now we come to the most important part of this night. There are many honorable people here today who will be honored for their excellent performance" and he continued talking forever.. I waited for my dad to be called at each award. He was also visibly nervous. I whispered to Chris "do you think he'll get the prize?" "sure" he said and smiled. More awards were given out and even Tyler's father was called up, he runs one of the largest companies here in Boston. "And now we come to the last and most important award of the night." said the organizer "that's one hundred percent you dad" said Alahna "for sure" I said "you're so sweet, we'll see" he smiled. "Many countries lack these jobs, many countries do not have the option of medical care, but this year a man was traveling to help people in need in these countries. In this state he is deservedly considered one of the most famous surgeons. It is an honor for me to present this award to Dr. Christian Estrella" Everyone in the room clapped. My dad stood up, hugged my mom, gave her a kiss, hugged me, Alahna and even Chris, Nick, Matt, Marylou and Jimmy before going on stage. He shook the event organizer's hand and accepted the award, the organizer made room for him by walking away from the microphone. My father stood up and started talking. "I accept this award with pride; I am grateful for this incredible opportunity and for this experience. Last summer I saw so much suffering in countries without medical care, I met families and received medical treatment... and I saved lives. I would never have been able to do this without my team. Thank you for trusting me and allowing us to save lives. A huge big thank you, also to my wonderful wife, who accompanied me every step of the way, who often had to look after our two beautiful little girls alone at night because I was in the clinic. She supported me wherever she could, just like our girls. Thank you for being completely understanding and never being angry with me. Thank you very much, to everyone who has accompanied me on this journey, without you, I would not be able to stand here and accept this award."My dad waved us up to the stage. The three of us hugged him at the same time, my mom, me and Alahna. In that moment everything was perfect.

During the evening many people talked to my father. Tyler's dad also talked to him. When my dad came back to the table, my mother said, "What do you think if you all come to us tomorrow evening and we celebrate the evening together again, just the 9 of us?" "Yesss, you're welcome to come over," said my father to Marylou and Jimmy "sounds gott, thanks" said Jimmy. My dad and Jimmy are really good friends since Alahna has been friends with the triplets since they were kids, just like our mothers. "It's going to be a great evening! I'll make a salad and bake cake" Marylou smiled. "Fantastic!" said my mother. "Then we'll see each other tomorrow? I'm really tired I guess I'll go home" I said. "Don't you want to stay, darling," my mother said. "Nah, I'm really tired" I said "okay, then sleep well, here's the key" she said. "I'll take you home" said Chris "that's a good idea" said his mother. "Are you coming back then or are you going home too?" his father asked "I don't know yet" he said "okay, take the key" said his father and held the key out to him. "Bye, goodnight" me and Chris said and everyone said "goodnight" almost at the same time.
