She broke the silence.

"M-My... book," she said, still hoping that she was wrong about her feeling and that he indeed hadn't read it. "I think I left my notebook behind yesterday when..." She paused, a blush creeping on her cheeks. "When our class ended..."

Her eyes couldn't meet his and instead, she was staring at his chest while talking. He was wearing a black T-shirt today and it was snug enough for her to make out his torso. She blinked and lowered her gaze completely, hating herself for her thoughts.

"Oh, yeah," he said after a second. "I figured it was yours and I was actually going to find you today to return it."

The knot in her stomach tightened. He did have it with him but that doesn't mean that he went through it.

He turned back to his locker and held out the black notebook to her. She grabbed it with both hands and just touching the smooth cover of it, soothed her a little. This was her little sanctuary, her safe haven where nobody passed any judgment upon her. Nobody could understand how important and precious this was to her. She smiled at being reunited with it.
