Gunner's mom was having a hard time believing that her son was in his room, lying down on the bed with a novel open in his hands.

He looked up when she kept standing there by the door, hardly moving. "What?"

Her lip twitched slightly and he sighed, rolling his eyes. "What?"

"Nothing," she said, trying to suppress a smile. "Nothing at all. I'll just let you get back to your reading."

She slowly shut the door and Gunner rolled his eyes yet again.

"Why is it that surprising that I'm reading?" He muttered under his breath, focusing on the book again.

It had been three days since Lamees had lent him her copy of Heartless and even though, she hadn't asked for it back yet, Gunner could tell that she was impatient to know his thoughts on the novel after he finished it.

He had to admit that he was enjoying the story although he couldn't read for more than an hour at a time. But he could understand why Lamees read so much. It was almost close to magic.
