That Monday, Gunner wasn't there at their regular table at lunch nor did he show up later either.

Lamees munched on her chips alone as she pretended to be absorbed in her book to avoid looking at other people. She kept hoping that he'd show up soon but when the bell rang, signaling the end of lunch, she knew she wouldn't see him all day today. She didn't have Literature on Monday.

She stuffed the half full bag of chips back in her bag and made her way to class.

She wasn't surprised when she didn't see Gunner for the rest of the day but she did keep wondering why he hadn't shown up at lunch. She could've texted him of course, but didn't have the guts to. She didn't want him to feel weirded out or something and her texting him might... or maybe she was just overthinking about this...

When her classes were over, she started to head for home and found her phone vibrating in her pocket.

Lamees's eyes widened when she saw the caller ID. It was Gunner. And he was calling her.
