CHAPTER 30: GUILT & BLAME

Cylus woke up with a gasp, sitting up the moment he did, looking around him. The last thing he recalled being in the middle of a battle. He stared at his surroundings, only seeing the calmness of the second infirmary room they had. The moment he recalled why he was unconscious he gulp, thinking perhaps it was a dream. He reached for his side, wincing the moment he touched it, only to confirm his injury. He dropped his legs to the side of the bed, hands against the edge of the mattress as he tried to get up, feeling the ache from his side spread all over his torso, making him drag a deep breath in, relaxing a bit before his next attempt that was interrupted when the door opened.

Cylus looked up, his eyes meeting Blayth's who stared at him for the longest time before the redhead's eyes dropped. "You should stay in bed. Liam hasn't gotten to your injuries yet."

"What happened?" Cylus asked, seeing the bandage around Blayth's neck, disappearing down his shirt.

"Everyone is alive." Blayth said instead, making his way to the bed and placing the blanket he had over the bottom of it before taking a seat in the corner of the room.

"Blayth." Cylus said, but he still wouldn't look him in the eyes again. "Tell me."

"Ruben was really strong. Noah tried hard to stop him. I think Ruben finally realized that Noah was stronger and that's when he fled. Though it's more of an exit with a bang if you will. He promised to return though."

"Levi never found us. In all those years, not once has he found our layer." Cylus muttered, eyes falling as he attempted to understand. "And now suddenly this man appears and he finds us, in what? Three months?"

"He's been in Wyatt's head." Blayth reminded him.

"What happened before he left?"

"Lorena got hurt, but not badly. I knocked you unconscious. Sorry about that. Then the blast of when the bastard fled hit me, slamming me against something... a rock or something but it managed to break a few ribs and many, many cuts."

"The rest?" Cylus asked.

"Wyatt had stabbed Noah before you. Lucius thought he'd healed himself to fight, but apparently only stopped the bleeding, stopping his right lung in the process so he wouldn't suffocate." Blayth told him, shaking his head, "Stupid. Liam is still trying to undo the mess he made. Lazarus is fine... mostly. Bangs and cuts, but nothing that would kill him. Ira has a concussion."

Cylus took a deep drag of breath, still not facing Blayth who stopped talking. He asked, "Wyatt, Blayth. What happened to him?"

"Ira's incantation was supposed to break the spell..."

"But?" Cylus encouraged, placing his hand against the bed as he turned to him, looking him in the eyes, urging him to finally say it.

Blayth looked guilty, his eyes falling to the ground as his hands wrapped against each other before he said, "Something happened. Liam still is checking him, but he doesn't know what went wrong. He thinks that it is maybe how the control spell was too powerful, that countering it did more harm than good. He said that Wyatt is in a coma."

"How long have I been out?" Cylus asked with dread.

"It's midnight." Blayth answered.

After a long pause, Cylus asked, "Is he dying?"

"That's just it. Nothing seems to be wrong." Blayth told him, "Liam says the only thing that is off are his brain functions. The patterns and all that... most I didn't understand, but he said that there is a chance of his brain cells healing like Lazarus did."
