Finally! It's festival day! You were professionally dressed, and considering how much work you all put into it, you'd be damned to decide not to attend it over some worry of a mishap. Compromises were being made to ensure your safety anyways, but in turn, you'd miss your best friend for a bit... You see, Nagito didn't trust himself around you at the moment. He said since his luck would probably be more intense while you were near him, in the very least, he'd want you both to walk to school separately today. In his eyes, there was always the possibility of his luck hurting you even without you being in direct contact. Of course he also worried about what could happen to you alone considering the other day didn't go so well. So he urged you to walk with someone, anyone, and in the end, you decided it best to walk with-

"Hajime!" You waved for him from in front of your door as you saw him walking down your street. You had asked Nanami before, but she lived the opposite way of the school, so she suggested Hajime instead after hearing about him saving you. "Since Hajime-chan lives near you, and you trust him, you could ask him right?" She tilted her head to the side as she'd suggested it. You were glad she did, you didn't want to get between them after all. You had a feeling they might like each other considering how close they were as friends, then again, you weren't too worried, as you obviously had your heart set on-

Nagito finally left the house, heart heavy as he knew he'd be alone for this walk to school. It'd be peaceful though, knowing that you were safe. So instead he moved his mind to wonder; wondering who you decided to walk with. Maybe you decided to walk with Chiaki? Aside from him, Chiaki and Ibuki were your best friends after all. Or maybe... Maybe you'd asked Hinata-kun...

'Maybe it's better this way...' He thought.

There was no way he deserved your affection anyways right? Someone like him, who could barely get the thought of love through his head.

'How indecisive...' He thought again.

Someone who knew how they felt, but denied the feelings anyways as if he didn't feel them at all.

"Running from my feelings... I really am pathetic, I'm not an ultimate at all..." He said.

But he had a reason right? Was it a good reason? It was to protect you, so it must be. There was no way you'd like him back anyways right? You may truly be his friend, but that's all he'd ever be to you.

"Best friends..." He scoffed.

It was all so bittersweet, but he didn't feel like he even deserved that. How could he, when he knew how utterly worthless he was.

'She'll never feel the same for me as I feel for her." He stopped.

'It'd ruin our friendship to ever confess to her.' He thought.

'I've wasted my time, trying to figure out how-' He paused, his hands clenched into fists as he stopped mid-stride.

"How to confess..." He stopped again. Completely stopped as he looked down at his wrist. He had multiple friendship bracelets, some were gifts from you, and some he made with you.

He thought, he thought, he said, he scoffed, he stopped, he thought, and paused, and stopped again.

Then he remembered. You would smile at him for the smallest things, though you did that often, so it may not mean much... Yet you'd also blush, whenever he was too close or said something strange. You'd constantly want to hang out with him, and you'd pull him back into the group, whenever he felt he didn't deserve fair treatment.

You didn't think he was useless, you told him not to give up, you'd help him whenever you could, even if it meant overworking yourself! You didn't have to, you just wanted to. You didn't just do it to be nice, you did it because you loved him.

But you loved everyone in the class, including him. Just like him, since he loved everyone too.

He smiled, whether you liked him that way or not was hard to tell, but maybe it didn't matter. He shouldn't let your efforts on him go to waste anyways, but if he felt better, would you still hang out with him? Regardless, there was one final reason he couldn't confess, couldn't date you, one thing that stood in the way, and if that was all, he was fine with it. His luck could kill you after all, so he was fine with letting you go if it meant saving you. Maybe you were better off with-

"Hajime! can you help me bring the cupcakes to the classroom? It'd be fine since we're going early right? My class has the festival decorations done, and I wanna give them a surprise as reward and since it's festival day! I secretly paid the Ultimate Confectioner to make festival themed cupcakes for us! Nagito doesn't know though... so he'll be surprised too! So, will you help me?" Hajime nodded, "Sure, I don't see a reason not to after all." "Great! Then let's get going now!" You said as you grabbed his hand to pull him towards the confectioner's classroom. You just couldn't wait to see the-

'Class was starting!' You could say, or not, since today would be nothing like the other days. You and Hajime walked in with the cupcakes, and half of the class was already there, including Nagito. "Hi! We brought cupcakes made by the finest here at school!" Everyone looked happy, excited to eat these famous cupcakes. You smiled, happy that they were happy. After greeting them, you turned to Hajime, who was rather awkward about his greeting. "Hajime-san, don't be shy, you're always welcome here." Miss. Yukizome said. You were surprised to hear her voice, you didn't know she knew Hajime. "Thank you... There's a lot on my mind right now though, so I'd probably kill the fun or something..." He turned to leave, but not before you could grab his arm, or before Chiaki could help you talk him out of leaving.

"It's fine Hinata-kun!"

"Relax, it's fun to have more people!"

"He looks so tasty! Ibuki wants to bite him!~"

"M-Mioda-san. Y-you probably s-shouldn't try that...!"

"Welcome to our class Hajime." Chiaki said with a smile.

"Ease up Hajime, have a cupcake, one's for you too after all!" You said with a light giggle. This was gonna an undoubtedly amazing festival for sure!

First of all, I'm really sorry for not updating in a while, I didn't know if I was writing this chapter and the next one right at all... So it took me some time to be satisfied with it, but I'm decently happy with how it turned out!

I was gonna post the part 2 immediately since I updated this one so late, but um... The next chapter is a lot longer than I'd expected... My chapters tend to be 3 to 4 pages long ya'know, 4 at most- But today I managed to pull of a 9 page chapter I think? And that's just the part two of this chapter alone. So look forward to a pretty long chapter next week, I hope it can make up for my short little break. Don't worry, I'm not getting disinterested in Danganronpa, and I'm certainly not running out of ideas and inspiration. I'm just a slow writer when I have homework ^^;

Anyways, I'd lastly like to say, I don't often do author's notes at this point, and, please give me feedback and comments on this story. I don't know if it's cringy or not, and if there's ever an error I missed, I wanna fix it. This is the first story I've ever been super invested in without getting bored at all, so I really wanna make sure it's good. I work really hard on it, and I don't want it to be in vain, I wanna make sure you guys enjoy reading as much as I enjoy writing. So PLEASE!!~ Tell me what you think! ;-;

Adieu!~
