Chapter 48: How to Silence

We all stared at the dead body of charles that is covered with white cloth and is being carried away from the inn.

"you seem sad, Did you establish a friendship from that boy?" Father questioned me while placing his hand on the top of my head and the other in my sister's waist.

"No" both of us answered causing him to raise an eyebrow.

"then why?" i held ethan's hand when he arrived beside me done with eating his food.

"well it's just sad that someone died again" lilith sadly said and sigh in distress.

Father smiled at her fondly and kisses her forehead. and went to stare at me to hear my reason.

"don't stare at me like that, it's just so sad witnessing a piece of the deicide puzzle being dispose" i lazily said causing him to raise an eyebrow.

"What?"

"bye" i yawned and walk away with ethan

"bye father" i heard my sister said and she rushes towards me. i could still feel my father processing everything in his head.

we are already far away from him when i heard him scream my name in piss.

i already know how frightened everyone witnessing the duke being so pissed. well why wouldn't he? when his daughter clearly left a vague sentence and left him without catching up with his father who she haven't seen for a month.

But i am not me when if i showed how i miss him. smiling softly i yawn to hide it. i glance towards my sister hearing her giggle.

"Let's go take another Quest"

Ethan and I stared at Lilith skipping ahead of us, she was the first who entered the Guild. i glance at the side when i notice someone following and observing us.

i made Ethan enter first ad i stayed outside ad turn around to stare at the place where i notice the stare came from.

i didn't saw anyone staring at us so i followed the kid. When i finally entered the guild everyone instinctively stared at me and went back to what they were doing earlier.

the noise of laughter and talking paired with laughter echoed that echoed throughout the guild isn't present. everyone was silent ad i cold sense mourning from them.

i didn't know that plain looking man has a good relationship with these huge looking adventurers as well, or they were just silent just to respect him?

Well even though he's plain, he's still someone that put himself to a danger for the sake of completing a Quest that causes distress to the townsfolk.

and he's human too. i guess i should stop judging it's a bad habit.

"Ezu"

"hmm?" i stared at Lilith and saw her staring in one paper pinned in the Quest board.

i followed her gaze and it landed to a paper that says Body guard wanted. the reward is just 50 Gold. i shrugged and waited for her to speak.

"why do he need a body guard to go to the forest?"

is it obvious? "monsters started appearing so it's normal for a doctor to need a body guard when they are on they way to search for herbs in the forest"

someone answered in my stead. Three of us stared at the owner of the voice and saw Xavier still wearing the pleasant smile.

"What are you doing here Xavier? " lilith asked and xavier didn't answer for a while and raises a basket with bread.

"Someone ordered some bread in the inn"

but your business is an inn not a bakery. i stared at him blankly and tuned out his farewells and just watch him walk away from us.

"You know, for someone who grow up with the deceased. you act like he's just a person that died" It didn't go unnoticed by me how he stiffen and glance at me with dead pair of eyes. it was quick that i always think it was just a hallucination.

I didn't regret it though, because strangely i feel Euphoric seeing his smiling eyes turned dead.

"i am accepting this let's go?" we followed her to to stomp the quiz and went to where the doctor lives.

when we reach the said doctor's clinic it was quiet. Yes a clinic is supposed to be quiet. but like so quiet, no patient inside even the doctor isn't in the clinic.

"the doctor must be visiting a house, why don't we do harvest on our own?"

"hm" Ethan and I agreed him just humming and me lazily accepted.

i went silent and stared at my sister as he crouch down to stare at a poisonous mushroom.

"Eh? how did you know?" she immediately leans away and stared at me confuse.

"True morels are hollow with no materials inside. that morels has a substance that looks similar to cotton. it's false morel, poisonous"

he nods and and stood up and went to another plant to stare at it. a smile curved in my lip seeing her being curious at everything.

"Don't touch it it's poisonous" she pouted and retracted her hand.

"but it's so pretty"

"that's an oleander, it can cause skin irritation if you touch it"

she nods and stand beside me.

"And about the puzzle don't worry about it"

"but i am curious, but i am also curious why do you know so much about this plants Ezu"

I smiled and places my hand in her waist and caress it circularly with my thumb.

"priest gabriel like to read a book I happen to read one of them and they were full of poisonous plant"

"i see, anyway let's start harvesting herbs you know one right?"

"..." i stared else way refusing to stare at her causing her to audibly gulp.

"and we don't have a list, why are we even here then?"

Ethan stared at me with a disappointed eyes and he heavily sat on the ground, i click my tongue and sat beside him.

This kid act like i am his child that gotten an F in her Quiz, so annoying.

"we wasted our time, let's go there we might find something interesting

We both stand up and followed her.

"oh what's this Ezu" she pointed at a fruit that look likes a cherry.

"that's a holly berries, that's poisonous too"

"this?" i stared at ethan and followed his finger.

"it's a dewberry it's edible"

and with that we spend our time eating edible fruits and roaming around the forest.
