It had been just over three months since Merritt and Asher had become vampires. The first month had been a blur of fucking and drinking endless bagged blood until the newborn phase wore down to something slightly less manic. The two newly turned vampires had been almost enough to wear Levi out. His cock had actually gone soft once towards the end of the craze from sheer lack of energy to keep going.

Thankfully, as it always does, the initial craze wore off. Merritt had easily settled into a new routine. Resting during the day, and enjoying the nights with Levi and Asher. After a month of being well behaved. Levi had invited Joy to come to the apartment to see if Merritt or Asher were past their bloodlust yet.

Merritt had passed with flying colors. Asher, had needed to be locked in the basement for the first time while Joy made a quick exit. The next week, they had tried again, with only Merritt. Joy came over, finally able to really see Merrittt for the first time since they had been attacked. Merritt had been able to easily sit in a room with a living, beating heart and warm, pulsing blood without giving into bloodlust. Talking calmly with a woman she used to consider a friend.

Joy considered Merritt her biggest failure. She had been charged with keeping one human safe from a terminal patient and an idiot; and Joy had lost. Merritt had been murdered. As far as Vampires went, Merritt seemed noticeably weak to Joy, her charmed ring barely reacted to Merritt, Levi made the ring nearly burn when he got close. Asher radiated danger, and had nearly attacked her, rending her the ring unrequired to know he was a threat.

While Joy was still very depressed regarding how Merritt had died, she had to admit that Merritt also looked happier and more confident. Joy had never known a vampire before and after being changed. She still didn't think it was normal for Merritt to still seem so much like herself. Not this quickly.

Later when Levi had asked Joy if she believed Merritt was ready to go outside the apartment. If Merritt could hide the unnatural glow in her red eyes, she could pass as human. An answer which satisfied Levi that he wasn't imagining that his little dove was so very much herself again. Only stronger.

Last week, Levi and Merritt had strapped Asher down in the basement for the first time, and Levi had taken Merritt out on the town. Taking a short drive to an unfamiliar neighbourhood and walking the streets. Truly nothing exciting. Unless you had been cooped up inside for months, with new senses and a completely new understanding of the world.

Merritt felt like she was in on the biggest secret now. As she and Levi walked, she could scent the differences between the creatures they passed. The smell of wolves, a single dragon. Witches and the strange smell of magic around them, Fae and the heart of the element radiating from them. Everything from the lights, the sounds, and smells of the living city had been near overwhelming. Merritt had not lost her control.

Merritt had been excited, thrilled to experience the world with her new form. When they had gotten home and untied Asher, he had licked every inch of her skin just to taste the outside air on her. Before the day was lost to a rigorous love making session. Asher had worn both Levi and Merritt near out that night.

Tonight was going to be the biggest test for Merritt. Levi was taking Merritt to Maroon. The underbelly Club of Red, the one for those willing to be paid to feed vampires who could be trusted to ensure all participants left well paid and alive and pleasured any way the willing victim desired. Merritt was excited for tonight. She wanted to be as good as Levi believed she was. Merritt was still concerned that the draws and temptations found inside an actual blood bar would prove too much for her to keep her demon under control.

Her vampire side had been muted from the very first moment it had manifested at the bottom of a cold, nearly frozen lake. Merritt shook head from pointless memories. They couldn't hurt her now. "I'll be good?" Asher beautifully begged, interrupting Merritt's mind. His unnatural red eyes trying to look so sweet, as Levi did the second layer of restraints to bind him to the bench in the modified basement of the apartment block that had previously only served as Levi's resting chamber.

Merritt kissed his forehead. "Your demon is still too strong, until you can control him, you aren't safe to go out." Smiling across the bench to Levi as he nodded. His work was finished. Asher would not be able to come after them. "It would make your sire sad if you were to kill a human." Merritt told Asher, reminding him that he was to follow her rules. He was hers.

"Ready?" Levi asked Merritt. She tucked the television remote into Asher's hand. Making sure he was comfortable. Walking to the door to meet Levi. Engaging the electromagnetic locking mechanism on the reinforced door. Levi traced the final fail safe measure, a rune on the door to activate the magical barrier around the entire room.

Merritt looked back at the door. Feeling like she was leaving part of her heart behind. "I hate leaving him." She said. Levi nodded, knowingly.

"Someday he will be strong enough to join, until then there is no reason to deny yourself." He reassured her. Merritt nodded. Levi was right, who knew how long Asher would need to be controlled. Merritt didn't want to stay cooped up if she could go out.

"Plus you can come back and let Asher feed from you, he will enjoy that almost as much." Merritt felt a coil of desire start low in her belly. "You'd like it too, love." Levi teased, already knowing Merritt was placated by the promise. Asher would fuck them both senseless again after tasting fresh blood through Merritt.

Levi and Merritt returned to her apartment upstairs. The apartment building was quieter. Tennants found it less desirable to stay somewhere connected to multi-person murder, with two people still missing. As leases expired, Levi directed his property management company to leave the apartments vacant. It was time to plan a remodel when the building was unoccupied.

The only work required to get Levi and Merritt ready to go out was change into fresh outfits, then Levi and Merritt worked together to hide her natural light brown hair under a straight haired blonde wig. Once it was in place, Merritt looked much less like herself, more ordinary to Levi, which was good because Merritt Stonem was only recently declared dead.
