Leah's POV

My heart skipped a beat at his words.

As we reached the car, the adrenaline from the mission was starting to wear off, and the pain in my neck intensified.

He opened the door for me.

I sank into the seat, relief washing over me that the ordeal was over, yet my body still trembled from the aftermath.

Luca's eyes scanned me when he entered the car, concern etched on his face. "Are you sure you're alright, Leah?"

I nodded, trying to hide the discomfort.

"Yeah, just a bit shaken up. It's nothing, probably just because I haven't dealt with this before."

He studied me for a moment as if assessing the truth behind my words.

"You don't have to be so strong all the time, you know," he said softly.

I met his gaze, momentarily taken aback by the sincerity in his voice.

"I'm not always strong," I admitted, my voice barely above a whisper.

"But I have to be, especially in situations like these."

Luca looked me in the eyes "You don't have to do it alone, Leah. You have people who care about you, who want to protect you."

A surge of emotions welled up within me, words igniting a sense of vulnerability I rarely allowed myself to show.

"And what about you?" I asked, my voice barely steady. "Who protects you?"

His gaze held mine, a flicker of something unspoken passing between us.

He just started the car.

As the car pulled away from the scene, the atmosphere shifted, the tension giving way to a sense of shared comfort.

It was a silence layered with unspoken words, a connection forged through trials and the acknowledgment of each other's strengths and vulnerabilities.

After a while, Luca broke the silence, his voice gentle. "Leah, I wanted to thank you. For doing that for me."

I shifted my gaze to him, a faint smile tugging at my lips. "You don't have to thank me, Luca. It's my job, after all."

He shook his head, his eyes unwavering.

"Of course, this was clearly stated in your contract" he scoffed in sarcasm.

"You went beyond your duty. You put yourself in danger to get that information."

I shrugged a hint of self-deprecation in my tone.

"I guess I just can't stand seeing someone like Juil have the upper hand."

His lips quirked into a half-smile.

"You have a way of defying expectations, Leah. I haven't seen it before, in anyone."

A comfortable silence settled between us, the car carrying us closer to home.

It was these conversations that always seemed to strengthen my attraction to him with each passing moment.

No matter how much I try not to.

As the city lights began to illuminate the night sky, I couldn't help but feel a sense of gratitude for the path that had led me here, to this car, beside a man whose complexities matched my own.

Amid chaos and danger, an unexpected connection had blossomed, and I found solace in the knowledge that no matter what challenges lay ahead, I wouldn't have to face them alone.

The familiar sight of the Romano mansion appeared in the distance as we drove through the gates.

The grandeur of the estate was somehow comforting, a haven after the whirlwind of the mission.

As the car pulled up to the entrance, I stepped out, my exhaustion suddenly catching up with me.

Luca joined me, his eyes scanning the mansion's façade as if assessing every detail. "Home," he murmured, more to himself than to me.

I nodded, a small smile tugging at the corners of my lips. " finally."

The cool night air wrapped around us, and I shivered involuntarily, feeling a sudden chill in my bones.

Luca seemed to notice and wordlessly took off his suit jacket, draping it over my shoulders.

The warmth and scent of his jacket enveloped me, and I couldn't help but be reminded of his earlier gesture when he had covered me with his jacket outside the mission site.

"Thank you," I said softly, my eyes meeting his.

His lips curved into a faint smile. "You're welcome."

We made our way into the mansion, the quiet stillness a stark contrast to the chaotic events of the night.

The dim lights cast a warm glow, creating an atmosphere of serenity within the walls.

It was a feeling of returning to a sanctuary, a place where danger and uncertainty were held at bay, at least for now.

As we walked further inside, I could feel the weight of exhaustion settling in.

My body ached, my neck throbbed from Juil's grip, and my mind was still racing from the adrenaline-fueled mission.

I stifled a yawn, realizing just how drained I was.

Luca must have noticed my weariness.

"You should rest," he suggested. "I'll have Linda bring you something to help with the pain."

I nodded, my gratitude evident in my tired smile. "That, sounds nice."

He started to turn away, his steps measured and deliberate, but then he stopped as if a thought had suddenly struck him.

"Leah," he called softly.

I looked at him, my curiosity piqued. "Yes?"

His gaze held mine, a mixture of concern and something else that I couldn't quite decipher.

"If you need anything tell me," he said, his voice surprisingly gentle.

I felt a lump form in my throat, touched by his words.

"Thank you," I replied, my voice barely above a whisper. "I appreciate your concern but I'll be fine."

He nodded, his eyes holding mine for a moment longer before he turned and headed in the direction of his study.

Left alone in the hallway, I let out a sigh, my exhaustion settling in like a heavy blanket.

As I continued my way to my room, the events of the night replayed in my mind.

Is as though I starred an action movie or something.

The danger, the tension, the unexpected connection that seemed to be deepening between Luca and me.

It was all a whirlwind of emotions and things that I couldn't quite comprehend.

And yet, as I slipped into the comfort of my bed, my thoughts drifted to Luca.

The enigmatic man who had become more than just my employer.

The events of the night had brought us closer, revealing layers of his character that I had only glimpsed before.

As sleep finally claimed me, I couldn't help but wonder what the future held for us, for the tangled web of alliances and emotions seemed to be weaving its way around us.

But for now, all I could do was surrender to the exhaustion and let the darkness carry me away into much-needed rest.
