Captain Blood

It's been about a week since Captain Blood came to ruin our lives. I hate him. If I wanted the treatment we've been getting, I would've joined the Hawks. Every day, he's been keeping us at the rink until like 3am and we're exhausted. I have a hard enough time sleeping as it is - I've been so tired that I keep doing everything wrong so he keeps me there longer than the others. We basically keep passing out on each other because we can't stay awake.

Miss Mckay is trying to teach but half of us are asleep as the rest of us are fighting to stay awake. Fulton's leaning back, using my desk as a pillow - meaning I have to share my space with him. I almost fall asleep when I hear Miss Mckay noticing how out of it we are.

"Luis?" She shakes him.

"Sorry."

Forgetting how little space I have, I somehow manage to slip out of my seat - crashing on the floor. As I hit the ground, I groan in pain and confusion. It wakes me up a little and causes Fulton to sit up and look at me.

"Sorry, Miss Mckay. I'm just gonna stay down here."

I groggily apologise as Fulton slides himself onto the ground, laying next to me. Now using him as a pillow, Miss Mckay's confusion and concern is at an all-time high.

"What is going on with you guys?"

"Bombay's been making us practice until 3am." Julie informs her without opening her eyes.

"He makes Y/N stay longer." Averman adds - even our team comedian can't find a positive.

"Why?"

"She's taking it worse than the rest of us." Adam starts.

"She can barely stand at this point. She's struggling to do basic stuff, so he keeps her behind because she can't get it right anymore." Charlie continues, getting angry just thinking about it.

"We try to stay with her but he won't let us." Dean finishes the chain of defeat.

Miss Mckay just stands there in shock. We're just kids, not machines - I blame that stupid haircut. He's worse than when we first met him.

"Okay, go get some rest. Practice is cancelled no matter what he says. I'll talk some sense into him." Miss Mckay announces.

"Good luck with that one." Connie scoffs.

Ducks start waking each other up. Thankfully, no one wakes me - I'm not asleep but I feel myself on the verge of drifting off. Guy comes to help Fulton off the ground.

"I got her." Dean says as he reaches out to me. "Come on, babe."

Portman picks me up and carries me back to the dorms like a sleeping toddler. I instinctively wrap my arms around his neck and bury my face into the side of his neck before falling asleep in his arms.

When I finally wake up, I realise that I've been out cold for practically a whole day. I stand up and do the biggest, most satisfying stretch of my life as Ken comes to check on me.

"Hey, Y/N. How are you feeling?" He hugs me.

"I just wanna go home, Kenny." I sigh as I pull away and sit on the bed.

"I know, you're not alone. Coach is in the other room, he seems himself but he wants to talk to you." Ken warns.

"Talking to him is the last thing I wanna do, man."

"Trust me on this. We'll be there if you need backing up." He assures me.

I reluctantly agree and follow him to the main room where I see the Ducks with Bombay. I sit between Dwayne and Connie as Coach begins talking.

"Y/N, I'm really sorry for how I've been lately. I wasn't doing my job and I couldn't see how I was hurting you - all of you." I struggle to make eye contact. "I promise I'll do better and I'm back for good."

"How do I know you're not just saying that?"

"You don't - you'll just have to trust. I know that's not easy right now, but it'll be a lot more fun this time."

I look to each of the Ducks, unsure what to do or say. They give me small nods and reassuring smiles. I trust my team.

"Alright, but I'm not up to standard."

"We'll figure something out."

Bombay is back and he's letting us rest for another day before we get back to work. I may get dropped down a line or 2 for now, but I don't mind.
