Recommendations from Portman can be hit or miss sometimes. This time he recommended a film called The Outsiders. A few of us were a little skeptical at first but we went along with it. Oh, boy, I'll never doubt him again - well that's probably not true but still.

We all watch as the gang get ready for the rumble. As they join other greasers and stare down the group of socs - we realise this is the calm before the storm. It's a shame Johnny is stuck in the hospital and can't join them. Also, where the hell is Dallas? Next thing I know, Ponyboy goes down like a ton of bricks and all hell breaks loose.

"A rumble ain't a rumble without me!" Dal yells as he runs in late, ramping up the hype. As the rumble comes to an end, Fulton puts a box of tissues between me and Connie.

"What're these for?" I look up at him.

"You'll see." He says blankly before returning to his seat.

As the rumble ends, the greasers come out victorious. I don't know why but the whole event has made us a little giddy - I guess we've just got way too into the film. Dally and Pony are heading to the hospital to tell Johnny - visibly beat up, especially Pony. Johnny doesn't look too good. Our hearts sink as my suspicions are confirmed.

"Stay gold, Ponyboy. Stay gold..." These are the last words Johnny utters before he dies.

Fulton was right - the tissues are definitely needed. Everyone is silently crying - even the Bash Brothers who have seen it before. Luckily, there's 2 boxes of tissues. We distribute the tissues as Pony tells the gang that Johnny died - Dally once again, nowhere to be seen.

I quickly glance at Dean who has a saddened and knowing look. Now I'm somehow more scared than when Fulton brought out the tissues. With basically no time to recover from Johnny's death, Dallas is on the run from the cops.

After receiving a call from Dal, the gang race to meet him in the park. With him in their sites, they scream as he's shot down.

"No!" A few of us scream at the TV.

"No, Dally!" I yell at the same time.

Somehow still alive, Dallas keeps going. The gang yell at the cops, reiterating that he's just a kid. I hold onto Luis and Connie with a death grip - Connie doing the same to me. Dal slowly tries to crawl away. Seeing the gang, the only thing he can weakly say is:

"Pony..." He then rolls over and takes his last breath on the ground at his friends' feet.

They all stand and stare at Dally's corpse in shock. What instantly catches my eye is how it has instantly changed how Steve acts. He stands to the side with his hands raised and shaking with Darry next to him shouting at the cops from a distance. As Pony passes out, I try to hold it together and stop myself from violently sobbing. It only gets harder as Pony reads his letter from Johnny - he knew he wouldn't make it but wrote about Dallas without knowledge that he wouldn't survive the night either.

"Amazing choice, Dean." Charlie praises.

"Yeah, Portman, that was great." Ken adds.

"See, you guys should listen to me more."

"Thanks for the tissues, Fulton." Connie smiles at him - he returns a smile.

"Yeah, what the hell, Dean? I wasn't planning on crying for a couple hours." I wipe away seemingly never-ending tears whilst laughing. Luis puts an arm around me - joining in the laughter.

"It was based on a book, ya know?"

"I didn't know you could read."

"I said there was a book, I didn't say I read it."

A little while later, I'm talking to some of the Ducks about it. The conversation is constantly about Pony, Johnny and Dallas. Makes sense since they have the most screen time and stuff. Thing is, I've always paid attention to side characters more than most people do.

"Can you guys stop gushing over the three of them for a minute? They weren't the only ones in the film, ya know?" I joke.

"Y/N, you cried just as much as we did, if not more." Guy raises an eyebrow.

"I know that but you gotta give the others some love." I shrug.

"Okay, who's your favourite then?" Julie asks.

"Probably Two-Bit or Sodapop." I answer.

"Soda I get, but Two-Bit?" Averman questions.

"What do you have against Two-Bit?" I fire back, fully prepared to defend him like my life depends on it.

"He was just a horny drunk."

"Dude, what?" Fulton laughs.

"No he wasn't. Sure he had his moments but he was always kind, caring and gentle with Johnny and Pony. He'd always be ready to protect them - Dally even said he was ready to go to Texas to hunt for them. "

"He smacked Pony in the side of the head." Guy reminds me.

"Oh, please, it wasn't malicious. Besides, Pony deserved it."

"True."

"Plus he has that Mickey obsession and watched it on the floor with a whole chocolate cake. How could you not love that? He needed more screen time."

"Don't you think he kinda looks like Coach though?" Julie asks.

"What?"

"Kinda." Averman thinks about it.

"Yeah, maybe in a different universe." Fulton scoffs.

"There's something wrong with you guys." I shake my head.

"Hey, we can't forget about Darry." Connie mentions. "He's the most reliable one. Always there for everyone, especially his brothers. Can't be easy being the responsible one of the group." She talks as if she's speaking from experience.

"Oh, you're no saviour, Connie." We all laugh.

I can tell that I'm gonna have to have these conversations with the team for a while. I'm used to defending people, so this should be a piece of Steve and Two-Bit's cake.
