Study Buddies

A physics test - my nightmare. When am I gonna use this stuff? Luckily, some of the Ducks are in my class. Knowing that some of them are better than I am - and that I have to pass to play - I suggested a group study session so we all pass. Since we always stick together, they all agreed. With the school day over, I lead the Ducks to my dorm room - which I conveniently share with Connie.

"I'm dreading this stupid test. Hope you can play without me." I sigh as I sit on my bed.

"Don't beat yourself up, you're gonna pass." Dwayne says.

"Yeah, you're smarter than you think." Connie reassures me.

Connie, Dwayne and Charlie sit across from me on Connie's bed. Meanwhile, Fulton and Averman join me on mine. We spend plenty of time going through our notes and quizzing each other. I know more than I thought - but I'm still getting stumped at some stuff.

"It's momentum = mass x velocity. We did that racecar practical for it last week." Averman corrects and reminds me.

"Oh, god, they got to Averman - he's learning stuff."

We all laugh as I reference a conversation we had on our first day. To try and keep the information in our heads, we think of things to associate stuff to.

"What can we use for the law stating that every action has its equal or bigger reaction?" Charlie asks.

"Oh, I got it." Fulton almost immediately replies. "Varsity set us up at dinner - we introduce them to the fire ants."

"Perfect." Connie nods.

"What about acceleration = change in velocity/time?" Dwayne moves on.

"Easy." I scoff. "Luis 'can't stop' Mendoza." I say causing Averman to cackle.

We spend a couple hours covering the essentials before calling it quits - not wanting to over-do it. To finally relax, we go hang out with the other Ducks and grab dinner. Trying to sleep is a challenge because I keep stressing, though I eventually drift off.

Cut to physics

My heart is racing as the test is a few minutes from beginning. I desperately try to remember everything we covered but nothing seems to stick - hopefully things will come back when I see the questions.

"You got this." Charlie says from my left.

"Deep breaths - you know the stuff, so just think about the links we made and you'll be fine." Fulton reminds me from my right.

"Good luck, guys." I smile and with that, the test begins.

Cut to getting the results

The dreaded day has come. I'm about to find out if I did good enough to play. What makes it more nerve-wracking is that Coach Orion is here so he can start writing up a plan for the next game. They all passed with flying colours but now it's my turn. I'm terrified. Finally, I take a look at my score.

"I got an A?" I mutter in shock.

"You did?" Connie asks.

"An A?" Dwayne echos.

"I got an A!" I cheer as they all huddle and celebrate the win.

"Knew you could do it." Charlie and Fulton smile.

"The student has become the master." Averman high-fives me.

"Congratulations. Keep it up." Coach pats my back smiling.

"I say chicken wings, who's with me?" I call out, causing them all to cheer.

"Let's go get the others!" Connie says.

"Tonight we feast!"
