Bigfoot

The things we do for Goldberg. He's convinced bigfoot is real and wanted us to go look for him. I know, stupid is an understatement. Normally, we'd all shut him down and take the piss out of him. Problem is, it's his birthday and all he wants is for us to go to on a bigfoot hunt then have a feast. We couldn't say no - partly because Bombay is forcing us to go along with it. So here we are, in the middle of a forest. We're split into groups. However, we're all still close enough that Goldberg can call us out for not doing anything.

"He couldn't just have a party or watch a movie like a normal person?" Luis complains as he lowers his binoculars.

"Our Goldie is anything but normal." I retort.

"Still, not normal for him." Fulton adds.

"Well, this ain't normal for anyone." Dean corrects him.

"You know, I really don't appreciate the attitude!" Goldberg yells from afar - I guess we weren't quiet enough.

As time goes on, I get increasingly bored. I know I'm not the only one. At this point, we're basically sitting around talking. I'm sat on a log, chatting to Fulton and Russ when Julie, Luis and Averman approach us.

"Hey, guys." Fulton greets them as they sit on the log opposite us.

"Hey, I forgot to ask, how are the shoes?" Julie asks me.

"Pretty good so far."

"You finally got some new ones?" Fulton seems surprised as I show him my new shoes. "Nice. Can't believe I didn't notice."

"What do you mean 'finally'?" Russ questions.

"She had the same pair every day for years." Averman informs.

"Way longer than I've known you."

"Yeah, those things deteriorated so long ago." Fulton emphasises how long they crumbled for.

"Pretty sure there's still flakes of shoe in my room." Averman jokes, making us chuckle.

"If they were that bad then why didn't you replace them sooner?" Russ questions.

"Money, man. We never really had enough spare to get any. Honestly, it's a miracle they lasted as long as they did."

"You still rocked 'em." Luis compliments.

"Thanks, speedy." I smile.

"These new ones are way better though." Julie says.

"Oh, no doubt." I agree. "You know what's sad though?"

"The fact this whole thing was Goldberg's idea for a birthday." Averman answers.

"True, but I'm still talking about the shoes." I laugh.

"What's wrong with them?" Russ asks.

"Nothing. My dad also got some shoes and - never mind, it's stupid." I sigh and shake my head.

"No, what is it?" Fulton encourages me to say it.

"My dad also got new shoes. Thing is, I got the same size. It just feels weird to be getting the same size shoes as my dad. They're 2 sizes bigger than the last pair." I pull a face.

"Wow, I guess it's just different brands using different materials." Julie suggests.

"Fult, what size are your shoes?"

"11. Why?"

"We could literally swap shoes right now and be fine."

"Those are a size 11?" His eyes widen with shock.

"Damn, I found bigfoot." Averman laughs as he looks at me through his binoculars - gaining a few chuckles.

"Fuck you, Averman!" I roll my eyes and throw a stick at him.

"Ow!"

"I'm taking a walk. I'll see you later." I announce as I stand up and leave the group.

I walk off in a bit of a mood. I know it was just a joke but I just feel a little shitty about the whole situation. I know it's stupid but that's just how I feel. Eventually, Fulton catches up with me - grabbing onto my hand as we move out of sight from the others.

"You alright?" He asks as we continue walking.

"Yeah, I kinda hate the fact I'm bigfoot though."

"You're not, babe. Averman just thinks he's a comedian."

"I saw you laugh." He looks down with guilt. "It was funny - I know he didn't mean anything by it. I don't know - I guess I just haven't been feeling great lately."

Fulton stops dead in his tracks making me do the same. I stare at my feet, feeling like a fool for making a big deal of it. I take a deep breath as he lifts my head, looking into my eyes and soul.

"Whatever it is, you can talk to me. You know that, right?" He says seriously whilst cupping my face.

"I know. I'm sorry I didn't talk to you sooner." I smile weakly.

"Don't apologise." He engulfs me in a huge hug - I instantly melt into his arms. "By the way, I couldn't care less what size shoes you get." He says in a silly voice, making me laugh softly. "Besides, now we can wear each others."

"You mean I can steal your combat boots?"

"You can borrow them."

"That's what I said." We both laugh. "I love you, Fult."

"I love you too, Y/N."

We share a short but sweet kiss. Once again, he holds my hand - swinging it back and forth as we continue walking. Neither of us know where we're going, but we don't care. I'm just glad to have his company. We don't talk too much during the walk - keeping a comfortable silence between comments.

During the stroll, I mention my feet starting to hurt a little. Probably because I haven't had chance to break in the shoes - and because of the unpredictable terrain. Instantly, he scoops me up - making me squeal at the unexpected action. I laugh and kiss his cheek before he puts me down. Fulton crouches so I can get on his back. We both hold on tight as we keep going. Eventually, we come across a strange furry figure. Fult puts me back on the ground and wraps his arm around me as we get closer and realise who it is.

"Uh, Coach?" Fulton questions.

"Hi." He says in embarrassment as he stands before us in a bigfoot costume.

"Whatcha doin'?" I giggle.

"Don't tell Goldberg." He looks ashamed that he's about to pretend to be bigfoot for Goldie.

"What's in it for us?" I trap him.

"I'll give you both 10 dollars."

"Make it 20 and you've got a deal."

"Fine." He sighs and rolls his eyes before leaving.

Today was better than I ever thought it would be.
