I never thought my father would agree to walk me down the aisle at my wedding. He hadn't been fond of Lucas when they first met. I don't know how Lucas convinced him, but he was more than happy to help out when the time came. I couldn't help but notice his eyes glistening as he got closer and closer to the altar.

"Daddy, stop crying," I hissed. "I should be the one crying."

"I know, but you're so beautiful today," he said. "I missed so much of your life and you're already getting married."

"You're here now. That's all that matters."

"Aww, sweetheart..."

We made it to the altar and Dad reluctantly let Lucas take me. I could see the worry written all over his face. I'm almost thirty for goodness sake. Let me get married!

"Take good care of her, Lucas. Or I'll end you."

"Don't worry, sir. I'll treat her well."

After a few seconds of awkward silence, Dad left to take a seat on the front row.

"Dearly beloved," the officiant began. "We gather here today to witness a sacred ceremony: the union of Lucas and Ruby. With great reverence, we come together to celebrate the love and devotion shared by these two children of God that stand before us. We are especially blessed to be joined today by family and friends. The Groom and Bride are honored you could be here to participate in this important occasion.

As the Bible reminds us in Corinthians, "If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing."

Over the course of their relationship, Lucas and Ruby have developed a strong bond based on shared values and mutual respect. With a solid foundation from which to grow, they have made the decision to take the oath of marriage and spend the rest of their lives together.

Let us revel in the joy and love on display here today. May we treasure these memories as Lucas and Ruby, under the eyes of God, get set to begin their new life together."

Mmm, this is going to be a long one.

"Who gives this bride today?"

"I do," Dad said.

"If anyone has cause to object the forming of this union, speak now or forever hold your peace."

There was silence. I was so sure someone would stand up and start explaining why we shouldn't be together. Nikki or Roberto isn't here, so I don't know why I was worried about anything. They'd been banned from showing their faces after what his aunt did at my birthday party.

I never really thought about how long a wedding ceremony actually was. I'm so glad my mom was able to persuade me to wear some comfortable heels. I'm not in a rush to get married, but my body is sensitive. The more I think about my feet starting to hurt, the more they're gonna actually hurt. I can't have myself falling, because my leg went numb.

Lucas was staring at me the entire time the officiant was reading. I wasn't paying attention to anything in particular. I keep thinking about Melinda and Mitch's wedding. It was so beautiful. Late summer weddings have never been so calming. I'm hoping nothing crazy happens here. The last thing I need is people talking about it for the years to come.

It came time for our vows. I couldn't help but shed a tear at Lucas's heartfelt promise to protect me with his life. Ha! When will I ever need that kind of protection? I've been independent for most of my life, it's gonna be hard depending on him for everything now.

"Lucas and Ruby, please join hands. Under the eyes of God, Lucas, do you take Ruby to be your lawfully wedded wife? Do you promise to support her completely and love her unconditionally, so long as you both shall live?"
