This is probably one of my top favorite creepypastas of all time, if not my top favorite. It'll have a slightly different format than others since there's way more information to go over. I'll also be adding a lot more commentary in parentheses because I have to explain a lot of the game's terms since many of you may not have played. I want to make this chapter as easy as possible to understand without having played the game.

Fun fact, one time my aunt's boyfriend came over and booted up a new game of Majora's Mask and I ended up getting freaked tf out. In the beginning of the game it says "You've met with a terrible fate, haven't you?" BUT I FORGOT THAT so I walked out to see it and started basically hyperventilating. (For those of you who don't know, "You've met with a terrible fate, haven't you?" is one of BEN's catchphrases.) I was convinced we were being haunted by BEN. Then like, five seconds later, I remembered that's just how the game starts. Whoops.

Clearing up Misconceptions

Before I get into the chapter and story explanation, let me clear a couple things up so you can understand easier.

BEN is not the young blonde boy that we all see in the fanart. BEN stands for 'Behavioral Event Network'. It's comprised of a couple of cult members (also called Moon Children) who took Ben's name as their own since he was the first to be digitized. It's like a hivemind with no true form.

Ben does not use electricity as a weapon nor can he hack anything without being plugged into it. The only mentions of electricity in the story are Kelbris (we'll discuss who that is soon) being found electrocuted and Skull Kid (a character in the game) simultaneously setting Link on fire and electrocuting him to death.

A lot of people think Ben's father killed him but he didn't. Ben's real mother and father moved out of their house after Ben died. The cult founder is the one who drowned Ben.

Simple Story Explanation

Firstly I should mention a prequel video about a girl named Rosa. She's someone who can see the future but she isn't from a Zelda game, she's from a completely different series. Due to this, most people initially thought the video of her was unrelated. However, some of the predictions she made in the video lined up with events from the BEN Drowned ARG. As such, it's now basically canon to the story.

A cult called the Moon Children worship Luna, the moon. Their goal is to ascend and become one with Luna. The whole cult is a front for the Eternity Project which aims to digitize people and insert them into fictional worlds like video games. The goal of this is to escape poverty, sickness, death, etc. They call the process of being killed and digitized 'ascension'.

Some of the cult members' names are Rosa, Ben, Kelbris, Ifrit, Nekko, Alex, Rem, and Kevin. Rosa and Ifrit are siblings, and Ifrit is also called Matt. They believe Luna will one day consume the Earth similar to how the moon is supposed to cause an apocalypse in Majora's Mask.

Kelbris is the cult leader and founder who claims to hear Luna whispering to him. He's regarded as a prophet due to this and is the first to ascend and become digitized. His death was caused by electrocution. The process was unrefined, though, and his insertion into the world of Majora's Mask was a bit faulty.

Ben is a young boy in the cult and with the promise of becoming Link, his favorite hero, he is drowned by the Father. (Kelbris, not his real father.) Kelbris can still manipulate the real world despite his digitization. Rather than becoming Link, Ben actually became a statue based off of Link. It's called the elegy statue. If Link plays a song called the Elegy of Emptiness on his instrument, the ocarina, he can leave a statue of himself in his place. This is what Ben was stuck as and it left him unable to fight the individuals making up BEN. He was incapable of moving, speaking, etc. He could teleport and sometimes he could create lines of dialogue but that's about it. The other cult members say Ben ascended, but they can't be for sure since they never actually found his body.
