You kissed your husband on the cheek before parting from him in the hall of the university. "See you at home later," you told him as you walked toward your lecture hall. All the way to your classroom, you heard your students whispering. You didn't pay much mind. They had been whispering about you and Roose for as long as you could remember.

You and Roose were very different from one another. He was very reserved while you weren't. You were more outwardly passionate than he was and you were much more kind than he tended to be. Gossip circled around you like flies before you even got married. The students now had other things on their minds.

"I wonder how long it will be before Professor Y/L/N is pregnant." You rolled your eyes at that. Of course. Your students had been thrilled when you and Roose had gotten married so it only made sense that they would be just as interested in seeing your family grow. "I wouldn't be surprised if she is already is." You bit back a chuckle. "I bet she gets pregnant by the end of the year." You hurried into your classroom to begin your first lecture.

That night, you sat with Roose on your couch, deep in thought. "What is it?" he asked after a few minutes. He barely looked up from grading his papers. "Hmm?" Roose chuckled lightly. "You sighed, dear." You hadn't even realized it. You licked your lips and asked the question that had been on your mind since that morning. "Roose...how would you feel about starting a family?"

Roose finally looked up from his papers in surprise. Children wasn't really something you'd discussed before. Roose already had one child from a previous relationship and, in his eyes, Ramsay was a failure. The boy was in prison after all. Roose sat back on the couch and angled himself to face you a little. "What brought this on?"

"Students. They are taking bets to see how long it will be before we have a baby. Some believe I'm already pregnant. It got me thinking about what it would be like to have a family," you explained. Roose didn't reply for a few minutes, but you could tell his mind was working at full speed. You sat and waited slightly impatiently. Finally, after what seemed like forever, Roose reached over and took your hand in his. You glanced up to see a rare smile on his face. "I would be honored to have a family with you, Y/N. But I don't want to rush things. Let it happen when it happens. Is that agreeable?" Nodding, you leaned over and kissed his cheek. "Thank you, Roose."

*time skip*

"Is that a bump?"

"Do you think it finally happened?"

"Is Professor Y/L/N pregnant?"

"I knew it!"

You bit back a smile as your students' words reached your ears. As always, you and Roose had kept everything about your relationship to yourself. In truth, you weren't even sure if you were pregnant. You suspected you were, but you hadn't had time to confirm yet. You only hoped the students would keep their opinions to themselves until you could be certain.

No such luck. Roose came in after work that evening with an amused expression. In his hands was a bakery box with a stack of cards stacked on top. "Uh, what is that?" Roose's smirk deepened. He set the box down on the counter. You glanced down and saw the word "Congratulations" scrawled on the front of the top card.

You looked at Roose confused. "They are all the same. Many contain quips about your sweetness finally rubbing off on me. Hoping that our baby is more sugar and less spice." You mouth opened. "Our baby?" He nodded. "I came back after lunch to find all this on my desk. There are also bags of baby clothes and such in the car. And I brought you this." He handed you a plastic bag. "You should probably do this now while I go get the rest of the belongings."

Roose turned and walked back out the door. You gazed into the bag. A pregnancy test. Shaking your head fondly, you went into the bathroom. The wait was nearly unbearable. But you made it and took a deep breath before looking down at the test. Positive. You smiled but it quickly fell. You only hoped Roose would be happy about it.

Your husband was already plating up dinner when you appeared around the corner. "So?" You sighed and answered, "It seems our students know us better than we do. I'm pregnant." For half a second, you felt doubt. But then Roose gathered you in his arms. It surprised you because it certainly wasn't like him. Even home alone, Roose really didn't show much affection.

"Um, are you happy or..." Roose laughed and nodded. "I am happy. We'll have to figure out work schedules, but I am thrilled. As long as you are. "You assured him that you were. Roose held you a little tighter and you sighed. You were a little scared about what the future held, but you knew that Roose's calmness would help you and, in the end, you would have a beautiful baby.
