Chapter 13

Emily's POV

The drive to the station was quiet, all besides JJ whispering softly to Mara, the girl had a tight grip on her shirt, her knuckles were white,

The hand print on her face was red and was most definitely new,

When we got to the station JJ lifted the girl out of the car and rested her on her hip and held my hand with her other hand.

I gave her a soft smiles and we entered the station

"Agents, it's good to see you again" the lead detective said coming up to us

"I didn't know you were coming back" he says and I fold my hands in front of me

"We're actually not here for work. We are here to sign some papers to start fostering Mara here" I smile at Mara who had her face hidden in JJs  shoulder

"Well please use the conference room for anything" he says and we smile and go in, JJ sits down in her chair and positions Mara where she was now leaning her back against her front

"Mara can you tell me now what happend to your face?" JJ ask her

"Lucas" she whispers

"Why did he hit you for?" She ask softly, twirling her hair

"Cause I not hungry, make him mad" she says lowly

"So he gets mad when you don't eat?" JJ asked her and she nods

"Ungrateful" she says seriously and I could tell she was getting upset,  picking at her hand and I motioned with my head to show JJ and she frowns and nods

JJ grabs her hands and the little girl sighs and rest against JJ again

" you're not ungrateful" JJ assures her

"But I not hungry" Mara replies confused

"That doesn't make you ungrateful, it's not your fault you're not hungry, but we will have to eat something tonight" JJ tells her and she nods and the door opens revealing Amani

As soon as Mara sees Amani she turns around as best as she could in JJs lap

"You're okay" I hear JJ whisper in her ear

"She's fine, over reacting and you're coddling her" Amani speaks up

"She's 4, any four year old wants to be held. And not to mention the fact she was kidnapped, and you put her in an abusive home, give me the damn papers and shut the hell up" JJ snaps and Amani stands there shocked, me as well. Different situation and this would definitely be a turn on

Without saying anything she puts papers in front of JJ and she quickly reads them and signs them and I walk over to her and do the same and hand it back to Amani

"Thank you" she says and walks out

"I'm sorry," Mara says

"What for?" JJ ask her

"You mad" she says and JJ sighs

"No baby I'm not mad. I promise" JJ tells her and Amani walks in

"Here you are, you are good to go. Your case will be transferred to a different social worker in Virginia, there they will do your home assessments and everything else you will need" She says

"Thank you" I tell her and JJ was just looking at Mara

"I'm sorry I snapped, thank you for this" JJ says and stands up with Mara

"Nothing too apologize for. I hope this works for you all" she says and we walk out and back into the car

I drove us to the hotel and we got up to our room and JJ tried to sit Mara on the bed but she started to fuss and not want to be let down
