Emily's POV
We were now only 15 minutes out from the hotel, we had gotten two rooms so then Penelope can have her privacy.
Mara slept for about an hour which surprised JJ and I both, she has been starting to get a little restless sitting in the car though
Pen got her IPad all set up for her to play games and she downloaded Netflix and Disney plus but Mara just got frustrated now knowing how to play the games
"We almost there?" She ask
"Almost baby" JJ tells her
"Penny we can watch a movie?" Mara ask her,
"Of course sugarplum, let's see what we have" Penelope says and puts on a movie for the both of them to watch
I know JJ is happy seeing Mara talk with Penelope like this, having her open up so early
When we got to the hotel Mara refused to let Penelope or I get her out of the car seat it had to be JJ,
JJ gladly picked her up and rested her on her hip while we grabbed our bags and headed into the hotel
"Hi how can I help you?" The receptionist ask and Mara hides her face at the sight of his voice
"We're checking in two rooms for prentiss" I explain and he nods, typing things into his computer
"How do you want the keys split up?" He ask
"2 for one and and 1 for the other" I explain and he hands me three cards and I give Penelope hers
"You're on the 5th floor, rooms 56 and 58 both connecting rooms" he says and I nod, I had already reserved this so I know
"Thank you" I say and we head towards the elevators
When we got to our room we left Penelope to check into her while we did the same to ours
JJs POV
Once we got to the hotel room I put Mara on the bed along with her bag
It was just almost 2 and we had paid for the early check in making us able to be here before 4
"Did you want to go see your mom today?" Emily ask me,
We were only staying 45 minutes from my childhood home
"Yea, I think it's better to get it over with" I explain and she nods
"We leaving?" Mara ask again, tilting her head
"No, Emmy and I are going to leave for just a little bit while you stay and have a bunch of fun with Penelope" I say hoping she wouldn't start to have a fit
"But I don't want you to leave" she frowns
"I know, but we are going to come back, I promise" I say and she nods and starts to look around the bed
"Poppy?" She ask with a small whine and Emily pulls out her purple and blue sloth and hands it to her
"Mara what do you say?" I ask
"Thank you" Mara says and holds the sloth up to her face and lays in the bed
"Mara come here" I say and sit on the bed and she crawls over to me and gets into my lap
"Are you upset that we are leaving?" I ask, I know she is but I wanted to give her the chance to tell me
"I want to come" she says
"I know you do but it's not going to be any fun, you are going to have so much more fun here and we will be back before bed time and we can lay in bed together and watch some tv" I tell her, rubbing circles on her back
"You're coming back?" She ask
"Yes, I promise" I smile and she nods and wraps her arms around my neck
"I love you Mara" I say kissing her cheek and she giggles
"Love you JJ!" She shrieks and I smile, smile so big
This little girl makes me feel so happy,
Penelope knocked on the door and Emily let her in
"Hi sugar" She says to Mara and Mara smiles and lays down in to me
"Hi Penny" she smiles
"Are you going to hang out with me while.....JJ and Emily go out?" She ask and Mara looks up at me quick and I nod
"Yea" Mara replies And I get up setting Mara down on the bed
"Okay, be good for Penelope" I say and she nods
"I will" she smiles
"We should be back for dinner" I say to Penelope
"Good luck my babies" she says and we walk out of the hotel room
"She'll be okay" Emily tells me
"I know she will" I smile and take her hand

We pulled up outside of my childhood home and my mothers car was out front
"You sure you want to do this?" She ask and I nod
"I'm sure, just promise me no matter what happens in there you're not going to leave me" I say
"Jennifer I'm not going anywhere, ever" she replies and I smile and lean across the center to give her a kiss
"It's now or never" I sigh getting out of the car and taking Emily's hand before going up to my mothers door and knocking on it
"I'm coming!" We hear a few seconds later and the door opens right after it
"Who- oh, Jenny, Emily, is everything okay? You never show up" she says and I sigh, closing my eyes and taking a deep breath
"Can we come In?" I ask and she nods opening the door for us and we walk into the living room
"Can I get you anything to drink?" She ask us
"We're good, thank you though" Emily replies for us and I squeeze her hand
"Well then, want to tell me the real reason you are here? I know it's not just to stop by" she says and I nod And let go of Emily's hand, putting both of my hands on my lap
"I know about Maya mom" I say and watch her face for any changes, the only thing I noticed was the same look anyone has gotten when they mentioned Maya around her, mother's grief?
"What on earth are you talking about? Your sister died 22 years ago" she says
"Mom" I sigh
"What Jenny? 22 years ago, your sister died, she would be 25 now," she says and I nod Maya was 3 when everything happened and I was 14
"I know how old she is, I was there when she "died" I say using air quotations
"What's with the quotations?" She sighs
"Mom I know Maya is alive, I just seen her not even a week ago,"
