Emily's POV
We have to meet with Maras Aunt today... I kind of already have a feeling about how this is going to go. She is going to try and get us to just not put up a fight for Mara, go avoid taking us to court
Which of course we are not going to do. I already contacted our lawyer, well my mothers lawyer. And however he doesn't usually deal with these types of cases he is doing this for me. And a good sum of money
We don't even know anything about this woman, not even a last name. Delilah is supposed to email us her full name in the next few minutes and we are going to see if Penelope will do a quick search before we have to leave.
We are also trying to convince Mara to stay with her at the office while we go and do this. Of course Penelope had already agreed to watch her for us
Right now mara was in my lap and watching tv while JJ showered since we just ate breakfast, or they did at least.
I have been trying to fix my eating patterns and start eating breakfast while I am home at least. Since when Mara sees me not eating she tries to get out of it
"Emmy?" Mara questions and looks up at me
"Yes?" I ask
"Do I have to stay with Penny?" She ask
"Just for a little and I promise JJ and I will come back and get you" I tell her
"Why?" She ask and turns fully around in my lap
"Me and JJ have some things to do. But it won't take long" I smile and kiss her head and JJ comes out of the hallway dressed
"Are we ready to go?" She ask and I nod
"Mara why don't you go get your bag?" I ask and she nods hesitantly and gets off of my lap, she always brings a small bag with toys while JJ always keeps one with a spare change of clothes and her cup if she may need it
Once in the car Mara pouted because of the car seat again.
"Lady bug please. If you don't like this one we can try and find you a different one but either way you are sitting in it" JJ tells her firmly and she just crossed her arms and looked away
"I'm sure all kids go through this stage" I assure JJ when she gets in the car and she nods
"I know, I'm just- very stressed out today" she sighs and I rest my hand on her thigh
"I know. I know, but it's nothing to worry about" I say and she nods
Once reaching the office Mara already forgot she was mad at JJ for the car seat and wanted her to carry her in
"Mara, go sit down and play some games on your iPad while we talk to Penny" I tell her and she nods and gets on the couch in Penelopes office after saying hello
"What's up?" She asked us
"Can you just get us what you can on Amy Atkins?" I ask and she nods and types into her keyboard
"Let's see, dad is dead, mom is alive but in an assistant living facility, she had one sister but looks like she died less than a year ago.... Wait- her sister... that means this is Maras aunt?" She ask and I nod
"Yea... what else you got?" I ask keeping it short
"Nothing, no speeding tickets, great school standing in high school, she is a 2nd grade teacher, nothing like her sister" she explains
