Devon stared at the gift in complete silence for a moment before finally deciding to open it carefully. It was a bit heavy, and he wasn't sure what it could be. However, it didn't take long for him to find out.

Once he removed the wrapping paper, he realized it was a camera. A smile spread across his face as he observed it, realizing it was a recently released model. He couldn't help but recall that conversation with Ronan. It almost made him roll his eyes, as he hadn't imagined Ronan would actually gift him one.

There was also a folded sheet with Devon's name on it, and he quickly recognized Ronan's handwriting as he eagerly unfolded it.

Dear Devon,

I promised I'd gift you a camera for your birthday. I'm sorry it didn't happen that way, but I wasn't sure if we'd see each other on that day. Anyway, I hope you like it, and don't forget to send me some photos when you have free time. You have my number and email just in case.

There are thousands of things I'd love to tell you, but I don't think it's the right time. Still, rest assured we'll meet again.

I appreciate everything we've been through during this time. You might not believe it, but these have been the best months of my life. Meeting you has been the best thing that ever happened to me—never doubt that.

I won't prolong this letter any further, so I'll just say... Happy early birthday!

With love, Ronan.

Devon smiled to himself once again, placing the note aside as he opened the cardboard box and took out his new camera. It had many more features than the one Margo had given him, and though he wasn't quite sure how to operate all of them, he felt a strong desire to learn.

After a moment, he let himself fall onto the bed and gazed sadly at the note by his side. Ronan... he would sincerely miss him a lot, but perhaps it was best for them to be apart.

A week and a half later, all the Cullens had already left. Only Edward and Devon remained, as Edward hadn't yet had "that" conversation with Bella and seemed to want to avoid the moment as much as possible.

Devon didn't press him and patiently waited for Edward to be ready to leave. Carlisle had left him a notebook with phone numbers and possible addresses where each family member could be found, just in case of an emergency or anything else.

That night, Devon lay on Ronan's bed, staring at the ceiling and playing with a ball. He didn't feel like doing much, and for now, he couldn't go for a walk because he didn't want anyone from the town to see him. At that moment, he couldn't help but think about his schoolmates. Things had been a bit rushed, so he hadn't said goodbye to them, although Angela was the only one he was concerned about. Maybe he would send her some photos from his journey along with some letters later on.

He heard the front door open and close quickly, realizing it was Edward. Devon stayed in his place, and in a moment, he saw the guy leaning against the doorframe.

"Ready," Edward told him, though he had a distant look.

Devon stood up, frowning slightly, a bit concerned. "Is everything okay?"

Edward nodded, but he didn't seem convinced. "You know you can tell me anything. I know saying goodbye to Bella might have been hard."

"It's not that," Edward hurried to say in a murmur. "I just... feel guilty for hurting her that way. I really saw desperation and pain in her eyes. I didn't want to hurt her, and it seems that's all I did."

Devon approached him, placing a hand on his shoulder. "She'll be okay, but if you still want, you can change your mind. I can catch up with Carlisle and Esme in London."

Edward smiled a bit. "No, I don't really regret it. The truth is, I never loved her the way she loved me, and I feel like I've been hurting her from the beginning by giving her false hopes. I'm really horrible for doing that."

Devon shrugged. "We all make mistakes. But you didn't do anything wrong; don't beat yourself up over it."

"You're right," they both looked at each other for a moment in silence. "So, we're leaving too. I'd like to travel all night. We'll go by car, by the way. It's easier to carry a couple of suitcases without being cumbersome, and we can blend in with people without looking like strangers."

Devon smiled a bit more and nodded. "Alright. Everything's ready on my end."

"Then let's go. Is there any place you'd like to visit?"

Devon looked at him intently, not sure if he should say what he was thinking. Finally, he nodded.

"Pittsburgh," he murmured, and Edward immediately understood.

Without further words, Cullen started the journey, accelerating a bit above the allowed speed. Devon seemed lost in his thoughts as he gazed out the window.

He wanted to see Margo, make sure she was okay, and ask her to leave her father once and for all.
