(Peter is Nick Fury's assistant. Sometime after AOU but before CACW)

(As a forewarning this is literally terrible im sorry)

Fury's phone ringing isn't the weirdest thing to happen during an Avengers meeting where they're trying to plan a future mission. Steve's convinced they need the full team to infiltrate a Hydra base guns blazing, Natasha is arguing that it might be smarter to go in stealthy with only a few team members. The weird thing is that Fury answers.

He normally has this important policy not to answer phones during missions, nothing can be more important than Avengers Missions. But he picks up the phone and hushes the superheroes around him.

"Yes?" There's a long pause as Fury listens to whoever speaks on the other end. "I'm- Yes. Don't apologize. I'll speak to you about this when I get back... Dinner's at eight."

Natasha's face all but lights up in excitement. "Is it Peter? Can I talk to him?"

Fury rolls his eyes without even looking at her. "We're in a meeting, Romanoff. Can it wait? Peter- Fine. Thirty seconds."

He hands the phone over to Natasha who's already grinning brightly.

Steve nudges Tony in the ribs with a weird look. "You know who Peter is?"

"No idea," he says, leaning back as he continues to observe the scene playing out across from him. He'd never seen Natasha look so happy before. "Do you?"

Steve shakes his head, moving back to his spot.

"-can't. I'm sorry," Natasha says. Her face has fallen into something of disappointment. "It's an- Yeah, I know. I'm really sorry. Maybe Hill can go?"

"Your thirty seconds is up, Nat," Tony says, boredly looking up from his watch. Natasha glares at him but nods nonetheless.

"I've gotta go- I'm sorry, Peter. I really am... Okay. I'll make sure I can make it next time. Don't apologize. I'm the one who's sorry. I'll buy that ice cream you're obsessed with. Just- Yeah, I've gotta go... Bye, kid. Say hi to Hill for me."

She finally hangs up and hands the phone back to Fury who pockets it again with a glare at everyone that says not to ask about it.

It's been a few weeks since that first mention of Peter.

Natasha's been extra careful with where she's going and how much information she gives about everything. She knows how Peter is with identities and she doesn't want to give it away, that's up to Peter to do. When he's ready.

She's in the middle of eating lunch with Steve and Tony when her phone rings. And of course it's Peter, of course it had to Peter when she's around the two nosiest people on the planet.

"Hello?" she starts, needing to know what's so important. He's supposed to be at school anyway.

"Tasha?" Peter's voice sounds wrecked. Shaky and hoarse as though he's been crying. "Can you come pick me up?"

"What's wrong? What happened?" she says, already standing from the table and ignoring the questioning stares she gets from the superheroes. "Is Hill not answering?"

"She's busy. I'm sorry, Tasha- I just- I need someone to pick me up," he says, sniffling quietly. He's a mere thirteen years old, in his first year of high school.

Natasha sighs, pushing Tony a little rougher than she should've as she finds a pair of her shoes.

"I'm on my way, Peter. What happened?"
