Chapter 3: Decision time

The day from which Indrina and jayant found bhagirathi near the river their life was filled with happiness.

Her Leela filled their hearts with joy. They tried to provide everything they could to their little bhagi but they were poor so it wasn't always much. But not once did their little girl complained. Never.

But the girl held unnatural love for weapons especially dhanush and sword. Indrani remembers the day when bhagi had come to her with tears in her eyes. There's one thing she couldn't handle and that was tears in the eyes of her little girl.

"What happened, bhagi?" asked indrina in worried tone.

Bhagi continued crying and kept crying with her head on her mother's lap.

" They punished a child, Mata. They said he did adharm by reciting Vedas and that he is a sut and doesn't have the right to learn Vedas and lift weapons ", said bhagi as she sobbed.

Indrina stroked her daughters hair " bhagi, they are correct. Suts don't learn weapons putri "

" But why mata , why ? "

" Because they are not allowed, people think sut are weak and God deems it . It's same with women as well putri. People tend to think women as weak”, said Indrina

" But that's not true mata. You are sooo strong . Even stronger than pitashree. Mata Durga knows weapons, mata Ganga knows how to fight . And they are Goddesses mother, they are Shakti , you only said na. Then how are women weak mata? " Asked bhagi as she lifted her head to look into her mother's eyes.

" Society deems it putri. We can't fight it " smiled indrina sadly

" Society is wrong mata. I will change it, i promise you Mata. I will find a guru who will teach me. I will fight for us Mata" smiled bhagi .

Indrina smiled and cupped her cheek " why do you want to learn weapons , putri? "

" To protect mata, i want to protect you and pitashree and that child who was unjustly punished today. " Said bhagi

" Very good putri, remember this always. Lift your weapons only to protect. Never lift it for selfish reason and never for adharm. Promise me putri ." Said indrina as she gazed in the eyes of her daughter.

" Mata , your words are command for me. I will only lift weapons to protect, never for adharm . I promise you Mata . " Said bhagi as she leaned against her mother

" I will have to leave soon then mata." Said bhagi as she held tears in her eyes.

"I know ," said indrina. She always knew she'd have to part with her daughter. She had a feeling that her daughter was meant for something big . Bhagi always was a bit different.

She remembers the day when bhagi had saved her . The most terrifying day of her life. The day she was sure she had lost her daughter Once and for all.

That day she was wandering in the forest searching for fruits to eat when suddenly she came across a huge snake . She was frozen in fear. she tried to run away but tripped and fell down. The snake was steadily coming towards her.
She thought her death was near. She closed her eyes and remembered her husband and daughter . She prayed to keep them safe.

" Hey!?! stop it!!  ", Shouted someone as the sound of running could be heard.

Indrina recognising the voice immediately opened her eyes. Her bhagi, her putri was running towards her. Her heart was filled with fear "No bhagi go away. " She shouted.

Bhagi reached there and stood in front of the snake.

"Bhagi move away, now! " Said indrina as she tried to stand up and help bhagi but she couldn't as her ankle was twisted .

" Nag dev, please leave my mother alone" bhagi joined her hands and kneeled before the snake.

Snake hissed at her .

"Bhagi please, leave putri ",said indirna crying .

"No mata. I can't let you be harmed . Your daughter is here to protect you always.",said bhagi as she smiled lightly.

The snake continued hissing and moved forward in attack position

" He nag dev, please . You can bite me but leave my mata alone",she put her hand forward .

" NO BHAGI ", shouted indrina

The snake came forward fastly and bit on the hand of bhagi. The poison slowly started to flow in the veins of her

Tears streamed down the cheeks of
bhagi.

"NO please no no no " said indrina as she was still trying to stand up but her ankle prevented her. She was sobbing .

The snake after spreading the venom detached from the hands of bhagi as she collapsed. Her entire body blue and her eyes were closing .

"No please , my putri , please ",sobbed indrina.

Suddenly the snake transformed into a man.

He looked at the little girl and a sobbing woman. He joined his hands "Devi, I'm sorry to have done this. I was cursed that until I bite and put venom in the veins of someone who was pure, born in this yug and yet not from this yug , someone who was willing to let me bite them, I will remain a snake . Your putri has saved me. I will remove the poison from her veins. I give her a vardaan that no type of poison would ever affect her. Thatastu! " Said the naag as he vanished .

I remember that day crystal clear. I was so sure and so much in grief that I had lost my daughter. I couldn't process what the naag had said for a few minutes. But when it finally registered I was again sobbing. Her tears knew no limits on that day. Arya had come searching for us. When he found me injured and bhagi unconscious he had panicked so much. But i told him about the events and I also made him promise to not tell anyone about the events.
I knew that if found about her vardaan her daughter could be in danger.

She looked down and saw her bhagi asleep in her lap. She caressed her hairs and smiled . Bhagi still had a faint bite mark on her forearm.

A tear fell from her eyes. She didn't know how she could survive without her daughter. The one who blessed her with the gift of motherhood. But she knew, she knew she had to let her leave...
