Chapter 28: A Royal Challenge

  The man looked towards Kripacharya and held his head high and said loudly, "Main RADHEY KARNA aur Main Mahamahim Bhishma ke sarthi Adhirath sushain ka Putra hu!" ("I'm Radhey karna and I'm the son of Mahamahim Bhisma's Charioteer, Adhirath Sushain")

Hearing him Bheem began to laugh, as he was already enraged by the fight, "Ek SUT? Tumhara sahas kaise hui yaha ane ki? JANTE NAHI SUT HATIYAAR NAHI CHALATE!" he laughed along with his brothers. ("A SHUDRA!! How dare you come here? Don't you know SHUDRA'S DON'T WEILD WEAPONS?")

"Toh kya hua yadi mein sut hu? Mera Samarth mere janm se nahi apitu mere karyon se Hai. Main ek dhanurdhari hu aur yaha Rajkumar Arjun ko chunoti deta hu!", said Karna loudly filled with confidence. ("So, What if I'm a Shudra? My Capabilities are dependent on my work not on my birth. I'm an archer and I'm here to challenge Rajkumar Arjun!")

"CHUP HO JAO!! JANTE NAHI SUT MEIN SAMARTH NAHI HOTA? CHALE JAO YAHA SE SUT PUTRA CHALE JAOO!", said bheem loudly... None of the elders stopped him depicting their silent support of his words.     ("BE QUIET! DON'T YOU KNOW SHUDRA'S DON'T HAVE ANY CAPABILITIES? GO AWAY FROM HERE SON OF SHUDRA. GO AWAY!!") 

Just as Karna was going say further the crowd started shouting loudly, "CHALE JAO SUT PUTRA
! CHALE JAO!! CHALE JAO SUT PUTRA! CHALE JAO!!" ("GO AWAY SON OF SHUDRA! GO AWAY!!")

Karna looked around as he faced rejection from the crowd. He had come here hoping that perhaps the people will see his talents and not reject him, but he was wrong. So wrong. As he heard the words of the praja his eyes found that of his parents especially his Radha ma. He bowed his head as tears gathered in his eyes. He could handle everything but tears in his mother's eyes were his breaking point. Just as he was going to take a step backwards a loud voice boomed and silenced the crowd.

"SUTO VA SUTAPUTO VA YO VA KO VA BHAVAMYAHAM | DAIVAYATTAM KULE JUNMA MADAYATTAM TU PAURUSAM||" Said Duryodhana as he walked towards Karna and kept a hand on his shoulder. He has had enough, till now he was silent as he knew the warrior was capable enough to fight for himself but now... as he watched the warrior about to take a step back with head bowed, he was filled with anger. His heart felt like it could burst any moment seeing such a great warrior with head bowed and tears in his eyes. ("I May Be a Charioteer, Or Anyone Else, That Does Not Matter Because The Family In Which I'm Born Is In The Hands Of Destiny, But My Valor Is In My Hands!")

He looked towards the elders and said loudly, " Kya farak padta hai is yodha ke gotr se? Aap sab ne abhi kuch pal pehle hi dekah inhone arjun ke kiye gaye har pardarshan ko kiya aur arjun se kayi guna Shresth kiya. Toh bataiye mujhe kya faraq padhta hai ki yeh sut hai ya koi kshatriya?" ( " Why does it matter what is the Caste of this warrior? You all saw how he performed everything Arjun did and dare I say much better than Arjun himself. Then tell me why it matters if he is Shudra or Kshatriya?")

Kripacharya looked at Duryodhan and said, " Yeh arjun ke saath dwandh nahi kar sakta!" (He; CAN'T fight with Arjun")

"KYU NAHI KARSAKTA! Inke Samarth ka inki Jati se kya sambandh hai? Parvaton ko todne vale jal prahava se koi nahi puchta ki uska strot kya hai! Uski shakti hi uska Parichay hai!!", said duryodhan as he pointed towards karna. ("WHY CAN'T HE? How are his capabilities in any way related to his caste? When a river flow breaks the mountains no one asks where it originated from? NO, It's power itself is its introduction!")

Duryodhana continued as he looked towards praja, "Shiv ke mastak pe chadhne vale pushpa se koi nahi puchta ki tum kaha janme ho? Uska sondarya hi uska gotr hai! Toh bataiye kyu is Yodha se pucha ja raha hai uska gotr?" ("When a flower is put on Mahadeva's head no one asks that flower where it is born? Its fragrance itself is its clan! Then tell mw why, why is this warrior being asked what his caste is ?")
