Brooklyn

"Hi Teddy. I miss you."
I ask softly, sitting down with a smile.

He doesn't even look up.

I roll my eyes, taking out my world history book.

Mr. Hampton's class is the hardest for me.

Social studies is so boring.

"So. How have you been? Good, I hope."
I ask conversationally, looking up.

He looks up slowly, silently nodding his head.

I smile, rubbing my cheek.

"Aw, that's nice. Someone's in a good mood today. You miss me?"
I tease, laughing when his cheeks turn a little red.

He hurries to look back down at his book.

"You're so sweet."

He rolls his eyes.

"Are you going to talk again?"

He shakes his head.

"Aw, please? I've forgotten how your voice sounds."
I bat my eyelashes.

Silence.

I sigh, flipping around in my book.

I can't wait to be done with school.

He clears his throat after a few minutes.

"Why....did you come back? You were supposed to stay away."
He croaks, avoiding eye contact.

I swoon inwardly.

His voice is so soothing and raspy.

I could listen to him talk all day.

I wonder if he's a singer.

He has the perfect voice.

"Because you are my friend."
I say, watching his reaction closely.

He just sits there.

"Friend?"

I roll my eyes, playing with a strand of my hair.

"Well yeah. You know what a friend is right?"
I tease some more, trying to contain my excitement.

I can't believe we're having a conversation!

I'm so proud of him, he's warming up to me.

He frowns, awkwardly looking back down at his book.

"Go away."

I fold my arms.

"That is a very rude thing to say, Teddy."
I scold.

Why does he insist on being all closed off?

He could be popular if he wanted to, he's very attractive.

To me, anyway.

More than anything though, he's cute. With his buttoned down shirts and curly hair.

Not to mention those pretty eyes of his.

People don't seem to notice him at all.

"Fine, whatever. I'll leave you alone."
I sigh, focusing on my book again.

I definitely notice him.

That's got to count for something.
