The doctor's finally discharged me from the hospital but Mama P said that it was too risky trying to go back to California right away so she took me to Stassie's house.

I understood why Stass liked it here so much. We drove down the coast line and wintered beaches look amazing. The water hasn't frozen over but it looks like a slushy, clapping against the snow gathered sand. We drove a ways down the coast line and then we pulled off the highway. The back roads to her house were lined with forty foot pine trees covered in fresh powdery snow.

Mama P pulled into a driveway that led to a bigger house than mine. Christmas lights hung down from the roof even though it was March, candle lights in each window like a Christmas scene.

If you told me that a hardcore hyna like Stassie owned this house I'd probably laugh and tell them to fuck off.

"Leave your bags. I'll tell Michael to come get them." I laughed at her calling Mikey, Michael. No one had ever called him that except teachers and after a while they started calling him Mikey too.

"Come on son. Inside, out of the freezing cold." I followed her down a brick path, cautious of the icy patches.

"Eve was making lunch last time I checked." Good. Hospital food sucked. The house smelled like sugar and wood. The living room was cozy, couches that definitely looked like they were broken in well, a fireplace lit in the corner of the room. Mama P led me into the kitchen where Evie was. She was oblivious to our presences.

"Eve!" Mama Patty yelled. Evie turned around and held up her hands.

"Sorry. What?"

"When's lunch?" Evie turned around to a casserole dish.

"Irish stew except we didn't have lamb so I had to use steak tips." Mama Patty looked so disappointed. I'm guessing for an Irish girl she wasn't making Ireland proud.

"Oscar, Evie sit I'll get the rest ready." We did as we were told and Mama P went to town throwing things together.

"Where's Mikey?"

"Showering. He dug out one of the neighbors and he looked like he wanted to die when he came inside." Mikey shoveling. Haha.

"How's my godchild today?"

"Good, this kid is growing and growing. The doctors think that it will come earlier than planned. I got to see it suck its thumb. Here look at the sonogram." She pulled the strip from the fridge and handed me them.

"Aye." The kid was sucking its thumb. I looked at Evie stomach she was fully popped now. No hiding the fact that there was kid in there anymore.

Evie took the photos back and kissed them before putting them back on the fridge.

"Babe! A car just pulled up." The two women tensed up. Mama P opened a drawer and grabbed a pistol. Mikey ran down the stairs half naked to open the door. Evie stood behind me as Mikey opened the door.

"Hey man, I have a package for Ana O'Neil. If you could just sign here please." Mikey looked at us and Mama P nodded her head at him. He signed and put the package down on the ground. We all waited until the car pulled away from the house before moving.

"Open it slowly." I say.

Evie walked over and handed him a knife. Mikey slowly cut away the tape and opened it. He pulls out this painted doll thing. Evie and Mama P let out a relieved breath each.

"Why did someone send Ana, matryoshka?" Evie asks.

"Open it." Mama P demands.

Mikey did as he was told and opened it. Inside was a smaller version of the bigger one.

"What is...whatever you said?" Mikey asks.

"They're nesting dolls. People give them to matriarchs when they kids. They usually don't just have one inside but a lot of them instead. Each nest doll represents a kid that she has." Evie explains.

"They're used as a symbol of fertility too. Your babushka gave me a set when I married your father. She gave me another set after you were born with five little dolls instead. This is just plain creepy. Burn them." Mikey looked them over once again. "Burn them now, Michael." Mama Patty gritted out her teeth.

He got up and walked over to the fireplace. "There's something about the big one that's creeping me out." Mama P walked over and threw them on top of the burning firewood. "Get a shirt on. It's lunchtime." She turned back to the kitchen and Mikey finally recognized me.

"Compa." He came cover to hug me.

"Que onda?" Mikey pointed towards the kitchen.

"Loco en la cabeza mujeres." (Crazy in the head women)

"Figured that much. Go get dressed, foods ready." Mikey ran back up the stairs and I went back into the kitchen.

Mama Patty put places of food down. One after another they came from the oven or the counter top.

After lunch we all took naps. I was still on heavy pain meds and they knocked my ass out every time I took them.

Darkness soon filled the bedroom I was in and I realized that it was only six o'clock outside unlike home where nighttime came at a normal seven or eight o'clock. I made my way down the stairs where the group was playing boardgames.

"Sit down. Dinner's almost ready." I sat down at on a chair furthest away from the domesticated mob/gang people and stared into the fire.

I felt like we were in Game of Thrones but instead it was Game of Mobs and there was only one way out of the long night.
