(A Little Into The Book)

"Now, my dear Luna."
"The alpha female of the River Moon pack."
"Would you mind telling everyone here, what you are guilty of?"
Zayne announced, gaining the full attention of everyone present in the court room.
No one dared to ignore their alpha when he spoke, and now, all eyes were on me, their Luna.
I was trembling, my feet felt like they were going to give up, and when I looked at the stone faced expression of the alpha, my mate, I gulped hardly.
I thought I could be careful, I thought I could hide it.

But, Zayne being the inquisitive alpha he was, noticed that I wasn't in bed that night, and he followed me to the library.
"I, I was alone with the Beta in the library", I said, in an ashamed tone, causing eyes to be on me.
"And, as a marked Luna, are you supposed to be alone with another unmated male, without the order from the alpha?" He asked, and I forced myself to speak.
"No, I am not", I replied.
"How could you?"
"After everything I've done for you, how could you betray me?"
"And with my own beta?"
He yelled, and I closed my eyes in shame.
Gasps were heard, and voices filled the room.
"The Luna with the Beta?"
"How brazen can one be?"
"Alpha has shown her nothing but love, how could she do that to him?"

"Silence!" Zayne yelled, and everyone kept quiet.
"Bring him in", Zayne said to his Omega, Ron.
A half beaten Adrian was dragged into the court room, and my heart broke from seeing him like that.
"Now, I will like to ask the beta, what I caught him doing with the Luna of his park in the library", Zayne said, and Adrian glanced at me.
"I cannot say it, dear alpha", Adrian said, disobeying his alpha's orders.
"Oh, is that so?"
"Fine, I'll tell everyone for you."
"I caught the Beta with his hands all over your dear Luna over here, and guess what?"
"HE MARKED HER!" Zayne yelled, and I put my head down in shame.

"What do you have to say for yourself, Adrian?" He asked.
"I love Paige", Adrian spoke, causing Zayne to be furious.
"Say it again, with your full chest!" He commanded.
"I love the Luna!" Adrian screamed, and I broke down in tears.
"You ungrateful beta!"
"You will pay for ever touching what belongs to the alpha!" Zayne said, and was about to change into his wolf when I spoke.
"He's my mate!" I yelled, and everyone paused. Adrian looked at me, and gestured for me to be silent, but I couldn't let him die.
"What the hell are you talking about?"
"You are my mate, and that is why you are the Luna!" Zayne yelled.

"I am mated to the both of you", I said, and Zayne opened his eyes in shock.
"That is not possible!"
"You're lying because you want to save him right?
"Don't tell me you love him", Zayne said.
"I don't know, I think I love him", I said slowly.
"You, love him?"
"Then, what about me?"
"What have we been doing all these while?"
Zayne asked with a hurt expression.
"I don't know why this is happening!"
"I don't know what I feel."
"I've tried to chase it away, but I cannot ignore the mate bond I feel for you both."
"I am the Luna, but, I am also the Beta's mate."

As the Alpha and Luna, we lived together in the pack house.
The pack only gathered here when there was an important announcement or occasion.
Each pack member lived in the River Moon's territory, amounting to a little over a hundred houses and more than two hundred members.
Our pack was one of the most feared and most targeted, probably because of the ruthless background of their alpha.

Zayne.
He always killed without thinking twice, he was a violent man, a man who even killed his father in battle, because he wanted to claim the rulership of the River Moon pack.
They say his father was just as wicked, even killing his own mate because she was too weak to lead.
So, he developed a morbid hatred for his father, and summoned him to war.
It was said, that if an alpha was killed in battle, the victorious wolf would be the new alpha, and so, Zayn started ruling from age eighteen, after killing his father.

No one wished to be his mate, because they were scared that he would kill them just like his father did his mother, and I wasn't an exception.
I feared that man, even more that I feared rogues.
I would be ripped to shreds if I even looked him in the eyes, so I made sure to never be seen by him.
But, all that changed ten years later, when the River Moon pack was celebrating its hundredth anniversary.

Paige's POV
(From The Beginning)

Everyone was invited to the pack house, and it was a merry occasion, the most reason being, the alpha wasn't present.
We were all having a good time, drinking, dancing and even singing.

Suddenly, the air became as cold as winter, although it was autumn.
I was having a sip of my cocktail, when everyone was silent.
At the sight of a particular man, who had a bunch of soldiers beside him, everyone fell to the ground.
"Alpha", they all said, with their heads on the ground.
"Alpha?" I said to myself, and immediately bowed, making sure to not look up.
"You may all stand up and enjoy the occasion", a deep voice said.
His voice had dominance in it, and even my wolf was obliged to listen to his command.
All of a sudden, she started to jump in excitement and howled inside me, and I shut her out.
She was troublesome at times.

"You there, wearing the pink dress."
"Come forward", the man said, making my feet move on their own.
"Oh no", I said, with my head down and soon, I was in front of him.
"Yes, alpha?" I said with a shaky voice.
"Raise your head up", he said, and I slowly raised my head up.
I looked at the man, and he stared at me with a shocked expression.
He had long brown hair, and he was the most beautiful man ever.
He looked like he was especially made by the moon god himself, and I looked deep into his eyes.
"Mate, mate, mate!" Rose, my wolf, screamed from inside me.
"Is he really?" I asked her.
"Yes, can't you smell it?"
"Oh, he smells so lovely", she said, and immediately, my nose was filled with a strong scent of sandalwood.

"Do not stare at the alpha in the eye!" Another man said, authority in his voice as well, but it wasn't as dominant as the alpha's.
I glanced at the man who spoke, and when his eyes met mine, he gasped slightly, and immediately looked away.
Then, there were two different scents in the air.
One, sandalwood, and the other, chocolate.
"What's happening?"
"Why do we smell two different flavours?" Rose asked, and I was also confused.
These two scents were definitely coming from two different men, but before I could think about it, the alpha uttered words that left everyone in the room speechless.
"Mate", he said, and his eyes held a mix of emotions.
"I'm your mate?" I asked in a slow voice.

"It seems so", he said and flashed a smile at me, making my insides turn.
"Alpha, there has been rogue sighting at the borders", the other man whispered into the alpha's ears.
Our eyes met, but he quickly looked away.
"Uhm."
"Why don't you all, enjoy the party?"
"I have some work to do", the alpha said.
"I'll see you soon, my little mate", he said, and patted my hair before he disappeared with his men.
