Speaking of the devil, I heard his voice from downstairs, and in a few minutes, he walked into his office and I bowed my head.
"Welcome, Alpha", I said.
"Adrian!"
"My good friend."
"I see you've taken good care of the paperwork?" He asked, and I fought the urge to scoff.
"Yes, Zayne, everything is arranged", I said, making sure to sound nice.
"Thank you, you're a wonderful beta."
He said, but when he heard the giggles of Paige, he walked past me and looked outside the window to see her having fun with her friend.
He frowned at this, but his gaze softened.

"And here I thought she'd be wallowing in her sorrows", he said, almost sounding disappointed.
"Is everything ready for the event?" He asked and I nodded.
"Your suit was just delivered by the dry cleaners."
"I shall stay over today to handle other activities", I said, and he pointed his hands at me in a satisfied manner.
"See why you're the best beta?"
"I knew I chose well", he said, and hugged me in a manly way.

Little did he know that we shared the same mate and I was a few minutes from marking her a few days ago.
I started to develop some sort of hatred for him, and Paige was the reason for this.
He was like a brother to me.
We grew up together, we did everything together.
I knew he saw me more than a beta, and he always treated me as his friend.
Other Alphas spoke rudely to their betas, but because of the relationship between Zayne and I, he was gentler and friendlier.

I wonder if he'll feel the same way if he knew about Paige and I.

I slept in a room opposite Zayne's room.
He wanted me to move into the house many times, but I declined because I wanted to be with my family.
I usually slept in that room when it was necessary, so, it was like my own room in the house.
Maybe, I would take his offer, since I wanted to be close to my mate.
But, if I was close, I would also be hurt emotionally.
Because, I would be seeing them together all the time, and I would even be hearing their most intimate times, and that was not something I was looking forward to. In fact, the thought of it made me gag.

I still hadn't spoken to her ever since that day, and leaving without a word in the morning was also rude of me.
It was also midnight, so, I slowly got out of bed and went to the third floor.
I wondered if she was awake, and I didn't want to disturb her, but I still knocked anyways.
She opened the door after three knocks, and when she saw me, she was surprised, but she immediately hid her expression.
"Yes, Beta?" She asked.
"May I have a word with you, Luna?" I asked, gaining stares from her.
"Go on", she said, but we couldn't have this conversation in the hallway.
"Can I come in?" I asked.
"And what would the Alpha think of that?" She replied.
"He's asleep", I said, and she scoffed before she opened the door for me to walk in.

"I'm listening", she said as she closed the door.
"How, how are you?" I stuttered, unsure of what to say.
"Did you come into my room at midnight to ask me that?"
"Do I look sick?"
She asked in sarcasm.
"I'm sorry for not coming back to see you."
"I was busy", I said.
"I know."
"You didn't come to see me, but when the Alpha called for you, you came here immediately", she spoke in a hurt tone.
"It was his order", I replied, my wolf not liking her tone.

"Oh."
"And, was it the Alpha's orders for you to kiss me?" She asked, leaving me speechless.
"That, that's not-", I said, but I couldn't find the words.
My voice got lost in my throat, and I gulped hard.
"Alpha wasn't home."
"So, his Beta came to my rescue."
"He doesn't even look at me, and when I needed him the most, he wasn't home!"
"Did he order you to touch me too?" She yelled.
"Keep your voice down, Paige."
"And, why would you say such a thing?" I asked with seriousness.

"I would never touch you because he asked me to!"
"You were in heat and you needed help", I said in a soft voice.
"Why did you help me then?"
"I'm not your mate, am I?" She asked, causing me to blink severally.
"My wolf says otherwise."
"She's jumping inside me, calling you mate."
"She doesn't want me to attend the ceremony."
"But, I have to."
"I'm the Luna!"
She yelled.
"And, I'm the Beta!" I said, causing her to be silent.

"I don't know why I have such feelings towards you."
"You can't be mine."
"Even if, I wanna be in your arms."
"And kiss you."
"And, untangle your hair with my fingers."
"And, hold you", I said, pulling her close to me.
She breathed heavily, and I rested my head on hers.
"I, cannot ignore what I feel for you."
"Don't mate with him", I said slowly.
"But, I have to", she said, and I felt a pang of betrayal.
I pushed her away, and she was dumbfounded.

"You want to hurt me, and do it with him?"
"Fine, go ahead!"
"He'll fill you up with his sperm and you'll become a baby machine", I said, jealousy filling my voice.
"What's that?"
"Sperm?"
"What's sperm?" She asked and I stared at her in shock.
She didn't know what sperm was?
Did she even know how babies came to be?
"Do you know what happens on the ceremony night?" I asked, and she nodded a 'no'.

"I was never taught."
"I only know that I have to sleep in the alpha's room on that day", she said with innocence.
Oh, this wasn't good at all.
"Wow."
"And you say you are ready to be mated to him?" I asked in disbelief.
"Well, if you are unaware, you have to have sex with the alpha to complete the mating ceremony", I said.
"What's sex?" She asked, once again.
"What?" I asked, this time I was bewildered.
"Tell me!"
"I don't know anything about it", she said.
I was about to answer, when I felt an ominous feeling.
