Author's POV

"Sir, the maids cannot carry all of the wood downstairs", Emilia told Zayne.
He was reading a document at his desk, and Paige was downstairs with her mother.
"Okay, leave it."
"I'll inform my men", he said, dismissing her.
"Simon, Ron, Adrian, come to my office right away", he said through the mind link.
All three of them were up in ten minutes, and they immediately bowed to their alpha.
"You called for us, alpha?" Adrian asked, trying to ignore the dull pain in his chest.
He couldn't go on like this.
He was ready to reject Paige as his mate.
Last night's pains suddenly struck him, and he tried to push the painful memories away.

"I want my desk and all the files moved to another room."
"Also, the bed frame is broken, so take it out and get a new one", Zayne commanded, mentally preparing for the jest that would follow.
"And, why is the bed frame broken, alpha?" Simon smirked, making Ron cover his mouth with his hand in surprise.
"How hard do you have to go to break the bed frame?"
Simon asked, going to the bed to feel the texture of the wood.
"This is mahogany!" He cried out, making Zayne feel a bit shy.

"Anyways, do as I said."
"There's a lot of work to be done, and I don't want to disturb the Luna when she sleeps", Zayne said, his wolf wagging its tail at the thought of his mate.
He had grown affection for her, and when she was hurt by those rogues, he lost his mind for a minute and all he could see was red.
They couldn't put up a fight, because Zayne was the strongest alpha in all the northern regions.
"On it", Ron said, gesturing for Simon to come to the desk.
They lifted it as though it was a feather, and they took it to a room that was at least four doors away from the bedroom, and Zayne watched them with folded arms.

"Why are you still standing there, beta?"
"Help them carry the furniture", Zayne said to Adrian in a half annoyed voice.
He still was upset that Adrian risked Paige's safety, but because of their friendship, he tried to forgive him, although it was a hard thing for Zayne.
"I have one question, Alpha."
Adrian said, making Zayne sigh.
"What is it?" Zayne asked.
"Do you really love the Luna now?"
"A few weeks ago, you despised her, and were filled with contempt."
"But all of a sudden, you began to care for her."
"Is it really love, or just your 'Alpha' duties?" Adrian asked with a scornful look, making Zayne get mad.

Zayne grabbed Adrian collar, his chest rising and falling from anger, and he looked deep into his Beta's eyes. Adrian stared back at his alpha with a hateful expression.
"Don't you dare refer to her as my 'Alpha' duties."
"I was crazy at some point, but my eyes have been opened", he said, letting go of Adrian's shirt.
"I feel sorry for treating her that way."
"I should have known better than to treat my mate as an object."
"And, not a word of what I said to Paige."
Zayne warned, using his Alpha tone, which forced Adrian to oblige.
"Yes, Alpha", Adrian said with contempt.

"And, if you may know."
"I am in love with her", Zayne told his beta, making Adrian's heart ache even more, and the air suddenly felt tight.
"I will protect her, and if anyone tries to put her in harm's away, I will have no problem in eliminating them, even if it's my own beta."
Zayne said, and as soon as he uttered those words, Adrian was filled with strong aversion for his best friend, but he hid away his feelings, and went on to carry Zayne's chair to the new office.

Zayne's men finished with the office, and maids went in to properly clean the room, while Simon and Ron carried the broken bed frame downstairs to dispose of.
When they reached the second floor, Paige was having lunch with Nara, and they bowed to her, before they continued with their work.
"Isn't that the bed frame in the Alpha's room?" Nara asked, causing Paige's cheeks to redden.
When Paige didn't respond, Nara's eyes opened in surprise.
"You broke the bed?!" Nara asked, a little too loud, causing the handmaidens to giggle.
"Shh Nara!" Paige begged her best friend to stop embarrassing her.
Adrian then came down with dusty hands, and when Paige saw him, she looked away.
He scoffed and bowed before he walked past her.

"Someone must be angry", Nara whispered.
"At this point, you two should reject each other."
"He shouldn't have to go through pain anytime you screw the Alpha", she added.
"Shut up", Paige said, and Nara smirked.
"But seriously, Paige."
"You gotta set Adrian free."
"It's terrible to watch your mate be with another person."
"And, Adrian does not look happy at all", Nara added.
"I've been thinking about it too, but I haven't had the time to talk to him."
"Zayne won't let me be with another male alone", Paige replied.
"Okay, then go with a maid", Nara said.
"What if they hear us?" Paige asked in concern.
"The maid doesn't have to be in between the two of you, she can just stay a bit far from you two", Nara added.
"Okay", Paige said.

Sandra came downstairs with her and Nara's stuff, and they were ready to leave.
"Alright, everything is packed, and we're ready to leave!" She announced as she sat down at the dining table.
"Mom, can you stay for some time?"
"I get bored here", Paige begged.
"Darling, I have a job."
"And, they need me at the hospital."
"And, Nara here too has her life to attend to", Sandra told her daughter.
"Yes, bestie."

"And, we really don't want to hear your moans at night."
"It's traumatizing!" Nara said, making Paige to be embarrassed.
"Fine."
"But, Nara will come stay with me before the eclipse."
"I don't want to be alone when there's gonna be so many males around", Paige said while hugging her best friend.
"No problem", Nara said.
"Bye mom."
"Wait, who's driving you?" Paige asked.

"I am", Zayne announced as he came down from the stairs.
"Alpha", Sandra and Nara bowed.
Zayne was dressed in a white t-shirt, blue jeans and a blue button shirt, and his long hair was in a man bun.
Paige blushed when he winked at her, and she looked down in shyness.
"I happen to be going to the pack hospital to check up on my gamma and his mate."
"So, I'll drop them off before I leave", Zayne said.
"Is the gamma sick?" Paige asked.
"No, his mate, Kendra delivered their child a few days ago."
"Since werewolf births are bone crushing, she's still at the hospital", Zayne replied.

"Oh, send my regards to them", Paige said.
"Nara, take your suitcase", Sandra said.
"Thanks, Miss Aspen", Nara replied, and Paige decided to walk them out, while Zayne grabbed a quick breakfast.
"Remember what I said, Paige."
"Reject him", Nara whispered, and Paige nodded.
"Honey, I will try to contact a friend in the west for the witches' location, so just give me some time", Sandra said to her daughter, hugging her for the last time.
