I broke away from Evelynn, trying not to blush as I did.

Well crap, I'm gonna have to deal with this now.

Me: "Fine, you guys win. Avoid the Southside and Eastside of the city. The Pit has the most influence there. Anywhere north or west is okay for the most part."

I stood up, their gazes followed my movement.

Me: "We should be fine, I'll recover soon enough. Just know, leaving is still an option."

My final plead was met with crossed arms and stubborn glares.

I waved them off.

Me: "Can't blame a guy for trying."

I slid my hands into my pocket.

Me: "I'm beat, so I'll see you gals in the morning."

Gotta go wish mom goodnight.

Akali: "We still have more questions-"

I cut her off.

Me: "They're better left until tomorrow, trust me."

She sighed and stood up.

Akali: "Whatever, I'm taking a shower then.

She patted my shoulder and walked to the stairs.

I turn to look at the others with an eyebrow raised.

No one said anything, so I took that as my cue to leave.

I walked up the stairs and headed to mom's room.

I'm glad she's been feeling better.

I walk around the corner and stop at her door.

I'm sure it must feel great to finally be able to go out.

A small smile spreads across my face as I open her door.

My heart sinks.

Where is mom?

My throat closes up as I glance around the room.

Clothing was thrown around haphazardly, the mirror was broken, and one of her heels was broken on the ground.

I took a shaky breath as I stepped away from the room.

Where is she she!?

I start panicking and frantically moving around.

Did she get attacked!?

I covered my mouth with my hand.

Oh God it's all my fault!

I wasn't here!

How could I be so fucking stupid!

I take quick shorts breaths as I fall to my knees.

Mom...

Mom...
