The walk across the street to my shop now feels so different

The walk across the street to my shop now feels so different. Granted, it was my first time being in the coffee shop. That was only because Alex said we needed a special coffee to celebrate the shop opening today.

I unlock the front door, and Alex walks in.

"I will get started on that little Ford car, that came in this morning." He smirks.

I turn and flip the switch for the open sign to turn on for the first time.

A sense of happiness and peace washes over me. This is it, what I have been looking for.

I turn and walk behind the front desk, turning the computer on. I sit back in the chair and my mind goes over to Scarlett.

Her name is fitting her, with the sass and fiest. It almost feels like I have known her for a long time. Which is crazy.

I had to hold back my laugh when she heard my normal saying about coffee being all the same. It took every ounce of self control not to bust down laughing. Scarlett actually looked mortified by it and was quick with the come back. So me being who I am, wanted to see if it is actually different.

Now, though I may need to start going for runs or work out more. This one I am sipping on is delicious, but you can tell the sugar and calorie content of it easily.

May be bad of me, but I want to try every flavor there is on her menu. It would also give me time to see her more often.

I could tell with the hand shake, she seemed shocked. The small smirk Maddy gave Scarlett, tells me she no doubt knows what we had done. Which means it is only a matter of time and I am sure Alex will, depending on if Maddy tells others or keeps it to herself.

Rubbing my hands down my face, I feel stuck in a tight spot. My past is beyond something else, and I don't want to plague anyone with it.

Scarlett though, I would love to be able to date her. What happens though if I have a bad night or something from my past comes up at the wrong time.

Stop. I can't think to far ahead. Maybe I should just ask her out?

She had mentioned about the last break up being a couple of years ago. So maybe she would go out with me.

I do want to find someone and settle down, I have been saying no one has caught my eye. That was until Scarlett sat at the bar.

Alex walks back in and takes a seat at the chair across from me.

"The car needs an engine rebuild." Alex says, grabbing his coffee.

"Great, something that will keep us both busy for the rest of the day." I reply.

I needed this, something to just do and take my mind off of things for now.

I get up from the seat, walking back into the shop part. Moving over to the door, I pull it open since it will no doubt get warm in here if it stays closed.

I walk over to the car, peering down at the exposed engine. It looks to be the original motor in the car, so this can go one or two ways. Simple rebuild or pain in my ass.

Alex comes out and just when we pull out the tools needed. We get to work and spend the rest of the day working on the engine. Time flies by and next thing I know, the sky is already darkening.

"Go on home, Alex. We can pick this up in the morning again." I tell him.

"Sounds good. See ya tomorrow." Alex gets up, wiping his hands off with the grease towel.

I close the shop door down, when I catch sight of Alex walking out of the coffee shop with Maddy.

The lights are still on in the shop, but their open light is off. Scarlett must in there alone, since a car still sits on the side of the shop.

I lock up the shop and shut off the lights on the inside of the building, along with turning the open sign off.

So far today no one has called in, but patience is key. Today is the first day open and at least we was not sitting on our thumbs all day long. Even if it is not good that it is an engine being fixed, it gave us some work.

Walking over to Shadow, I look back at the coffee shop again.

This lady has took up so much of my thinking time in the last forty eight hours, I might as well go see if she would like to having dinner with me. It doesn't hurt anything, if she says no then she was a nice lay but I don't just want that.

Right when I walk across the street and look through the glass door, I smile when Scarlett seems to be dancing behind the counter.

I knock on the door, causing Scarlett to jump.

I watch as she spins around and walks up, unlocking the door.

"Sorry to scare you." I say.

"All good. I just had some music going, while I work on flavors for some holiday coffee ideas." Scarlett smiles.

"Come on in." Scarlett steps back to where I can walk in.

"Thanks." I say, closing the door behind me.

"I get the chance to show you it is all different." Scarlett laughs.

"I am not going to live that down." I mumble.

"Bet your life you're not as long as you are around my shop." Scarlett clips, with a smirk.

"Will you have dinner with me?" My ask question spills out.

Smooth jerk, real smooth.

"You want to have food together?" Scarlett asks.

"That would be a good plan." I chuckle.

"Do you think all food is the same?" Scarlett smirks, crossing her arms over her chest.

My eyes fight not to zero in on her rack that just got pushed up even more. No, I need to do this right with her if at all possible. We already done it and even though it was nice, I want to get to know her too.

"No all food is not the same." I smile.

"Okay, in that case. Sure, I will have dinner with you." Scarlett starts putting up the items she had out on the counter top.
