I felt numb

I felt numb. Numb to the world that was running around me as trees passed by the car window. I listened to the soft music from the car radio that Klaus turned on awhile ago. I haven't spoken to him since last night. I found out that Carol Lockwood was dead. Caroline and Tyler texted me with the news. My best friend just lost his mother, and I was stuck on a road trip with her killer. I didn't want to talk to him, let alone be anywhere near him. I would rather be anywhere, but here. I sighed as the car turned down a very familiar road that I knew really well. The lake house that I loved spending time with my family. The car finally came to a stop, and I released my seat belt and hopped out of the car. I didn't want to be in that car any more than I had to. I slammed the door behind me and walked away from the car and driver. "Love, don't go too far." He called after me. I rolled my eyes and continued around the house to the backyard. I made my way around the building and saw my brother putting a gun together. Damon must have said something to him as he unloaded the gun and tossed it on the table in front of my brother.

"Dawn, what are you doing here?" Damon asked as he looked up at me.

I stood in front of the two with my arms crossed over my chest. "Nice to see you too, Damon. I hope you are taking care of my brother." I said as Jeremy stood up and turned to face me.

"All he has done is bark orders and listen to Elena's voicemails." He said as he came closer to me. "I want a new instructor. Could you do it?" he begged me.

I smiled as I turned to Damon. "I thought you told Elena to stay away from you because of the sire bond."

"I did, but she still has a phone, you know." He chuckled as he leaned on the table. "And you know how to fight? Because your brother has been begging to get you up here."

"I bet he has." I rolled my eyes. "I know how to take down a full-grown man, not a vampire," I stated as I looked at my brother. "And last time I tried to teach you anything, you complained the whole time," I said as I pushed his shoulder in a joking way.

"I promise I won't complain about this time." He begged as he wrapped his arm around my shoulders. "Teach me something better than Damon."

"Better than Damon?" I tilted my head back. Damon seemed to be skeptical. I rolled my eyes and looked up at Jeremy, who smiled. I then lifted my elbow and slammed it down into my brother's chest. He hunched over as a grunt left his mouth. I spun myself out of his arm as my hand grabbed his wrist. I twisted his arm back as he stood up straight again. I slammed his arm into his back as my leg slid under his tripping him. he slammed into the dirt with a loud thud. He groaned and spat dirt out of his mouth. My knee sat on his wrist, pinning him to the ground. "Okay, always be alert, little brother."

"Not far. I wasn't ready." He complained. I looked behind me to see Damon now a bit impressed.

"Nice, D. I didn't know you had it in you." He commented as Jeremy continued to struggle.
