Chapter twenty-one: "Dinner With Cloud"

"Penelope?" Will asked

"The one and only, so could you mind filling in the gaps as to why Alice is crying her eyes out?"

He went silent for a solid 3 minutes before answering "I'm busy with assignments"

"Do you hear that?" I asked

"What?"

"That's bullshit I'm hearing right now, you could've given her at least a little of your time even for one minute is enough for her" I scolded him as I leaned back on a wall
I felt like there is more to what Will is hiding from all of us, especially from his girlfriend Alice

He should come clean right now or else this matter will worsen and their relationship won't work anymore. Will was only silent and the only thing that I'm hearing through our call was his breathing

"I-I want to ask Alice if she would love to accept the promise ring I was giving to her"

I don't think there is anything bad about gifting your girlfriend a promise ring

"Then why the hell is she crying now?"

"She didn't accept and said that we cannot be certain of our future, I was so down that I started to drown myself in assignments and projects"

I pinched the bridge of my nose and closed my eyes, ladies and gents these are my two best friend's

"I think she only saw me as a fling and not somebody she could have a future with, that rejection hurts me a lot" his voice croaked and I could feel his sadness even through a phone call

One is puzzled why her boyfriend is ignoring her while the other is depressed because he thinks she only saw him as a fling

I know Alice in the past but compared to now she is doing her very best to keep their relationship afloat, she is very loyal and would never do anything to hurt Will

Is this what my friends felt when they keep seeing me and Cloud trying to struggle with our thoughts when we were only Pillow Buddies? Because this shit is tiring as hell

It feels so frustrating and you just wanna tell them the truth but you gotta let them find it out for themselves

I slumped my shoulder "Why don't you talk to her? I'm sure Cloud would also say the same thing"

"He did actually, right after he called you called me" he replied

Nevermind then

We chatted for a while and I asked how was medical school, never in my 5 years of being his best friend that I heard him complain so much about school work. Will's intelligence was like Cloud's
Back in high school, these two are admired by everyone

Right now the admitted duo are both suffering from the high amounts of schoolwork, Cloud gets academic burnout once in a while and I typically ran to his aid so I could be of his assistance

"Do you know how much homework they gave us by Friday? 10 I TELL YOU!" He complained loudly. I was glad he did it on the phone because I could adjust the call volume setting
Well he did choose to go study in a medical school, nobody said it was easy

I smiled and reminisce the memories we all share back when we were in high school. We were so carefree and although it has homework it doesn't amount as much to the homework we have now

The alarm in my phone rang
My dinner with Cloud

"Looks like I'm gonna end the call right here since I'm going to have dinner with Cloud, I hope you two could sort your situation out"
