Chapter forty-seven: "The Way He Looks At You"

It was nighttime and I'm all alone in my bedroom being distracted playing games and music on my phone while wearing earbuds as I lay flat on my belly on the bed
Tomorrow would be the fitting of the bridesmaid dresses at the palace and I'm not thrilled to go

The house was a bit noisy since everybody was downstairs and is still chatting to keep up with each other
I just didn't want to talk much right now

There was a knock at the door and there came in Dad bringing me chocolate pudding with a small spoon "Hey sweetie" his face was filled with concern
I assume he already heard about Cloud not contacting me for an entire week

He stepped in and closed the door gently behind him before walking up to me to give me the pudding, I gladly accepted the dessert with a sad smile

I took a scoop of pudding into my mouth before resting my head on Dad's shoulder and becoming sullen again. His eyes landed on a small blue teddy bear on my vanity then he chuckled "You know kiddo when you were in your mom's tummy we all thought you were going to be a boy"

Well that's news to me, I never knew that

"Were you all surprised when I turned out to be a girl?"

My Dad laughed out loud for a short moment "Surprised? Kiddo we were all shocked to see that you were a girl, all of your baby things were all boy themed"

Oh, so no wonder I was confused why there were baby dinosaur wallpapers in my baby room in the album. They assumed I was gonna be a boy

He gave me a side hug "You know, when I met Cloud when you brought him home I knew then and there that I saw myself within him"

I looked up at Dad with a confused expression "How?"

Reynaldo Timothee Price being the same as Cloud Marshall? That's different. I can't imagine Dad being the same as Cloud

I'm probably sure that my Mom, Hannah Marie Diaz is not pleased with his presence when they were younger

"Do you know the role of being a father right?" he asked me all of a sudden and I nodded at him as a quick response

His hand went to pat my head "Our job is to watch over our children and be in charge of helping them find a good and loving partner, every father wants the best for their daughter"

Slowly his eyes look down at my phone lock screen with the picture of Cloud and me "Cloud reminded me of when I was younger, to be honest, your grandma didn't like me a single bit when I first met her"

I patted his back "Why wouldn't she like you back then?"
This was something I have never heard before, I know that grandma was close with Dad every reunion

"She said I wasn't good enough for your mother"

My eyes widened "WHY?!"

He chuckled "Listen here, a thing about being an aspiring painter is that you gotta expect everyone to doubt your abilities and that you cannot make a living out of art. In my case though, she said that I have no future and that I don't have the capacity to support her or even our future kids"

No words came out of my mouth
I never knew Dad went through all that

Dad laid his back on the headboard "And yet here I am years later with 7 daughters and being a successful painter" he grinned proudly

I smiled at him "So what are you trying to say?"

"What I'm trying to say is that when I met Cloud when you introduced him as your boyfriend, I knew instantly he was going to take care and protect you which relieves me"
