Song of the chapter: Caught Up by Austin Mahone

Emily's POV

"You have got to be kidding me," I said as I skimmed over the note.

Hey Ems,

Alex and I went out to the bar for a couple of drinks but I'll be back early tonight. Give Lucy lots of kisses for me.

Love you!

- Austin

I had nothing against Austin going out for drinks with his friends. He was twenty-one and could do whatever the hell he wanted, but I had already made a big meal ahead of time and now I had no one else to eat it with.

"You see, honey, this is why I can't make surprise meals for your daddy," I said to Lucy, who was sitting on the counter with my other arm wrapped around her to keep her steady. She had woken up on the way home. "Well, do you want to eat it with me?"

She nodded her head once before yawning. "Okay, let's eat quickly before you pass out in your food again."

I spooned out some food for Lucy and set her in her high chair before fixing myself a plate. I didn't even get one spoonful in my mouth before I sighed and lowered my spoon. "Luce, I can see you in my peripheral vision. Take your hands out of your mashed potatoes."

I heard her giggling and I glanced over at her to see her smashing away. "Lucy, use your spoon!" I said, taking her hands and wiping them on a towel. I handed her little Dora spoon to her. "Show mommy how you can use a spoon."

She slowly shoved it in the potatoes before taking it out, a little bit of potatoes on the end. She was still getting used to actually having to scoop the spoon to get a decent amount on it, but it was progress. "Good job! See? That's how you eat properly. You don't use your hands. Unless it's French fries or something, but that's different."

It was seven o'clock, which was Lucy's bedtime, so we finished up our meal and I took her upstairs to give her a quick bath. She picked out her favorite pink fuzzy onesie and I brushed her hair before laying her down in her bed.

"Tomorrow it's daddy's turn to put you to bed since he's not here tonight," I said, smiling down at her. "Night, sweetie, I love you."

"Bye!" she said.

Five minutes after I put her to bed, our video baby monitor showed that she was out cold, so I went back into the kitchen to clean up the rest of dinner. The rest of my evening was spent looking through wedding catalogues in the living room, and at around eleven o'clock, Austin still wasn't home. He hadn't called either, so naturally, I started to get worried. "Damn it, Austin," I muttered, grabbing my phone. It rang four times before his voicemail came on. "Hey, it's me. Um, just wondering where you are, considering it's pretty late already. You better be safe."

I hung up and went upstairs since I was tired and Austin wasn't home, which I know, I should have been staying up to wait for him, but I didn't know how late he was going to be. Therefore, I showered, put on some shorts and a tank top, and crawled into bed.

I was just about asleep when I heard the door open downstairs. I rubbed my eyes and checked the digital clock on the bedside table. It was 11:34. About time, Austin. I groaned and closed my eyes again.

A few minutes later, the bedroom door opened and I heard Austin walk into the room. He was shuffling around, presumably changing into his sleep attire, which was always just sweatpants.

I felt the end of the bed sink as he kneeled on it and hovered over me. "Emily," he whispered.

"Seriously, Austin? It's almost midnight."

"I know, I'm sorry I'm so late," he said.

"You know you should have called me. I was worried sick."

"Hmm?" He hummed, leaning down to kiss my neck. "Where's Lucy?"

"What do you mean, where's Lucy? She's clearly asleep!"

"Oh, right."

I rolled over to look up at him. "Are you drunk?"

"No," he said. I begged to differ; he looked like ass.

"You definitely had more than a couple of drinks because your breath smells so bad of beer," I said, rolling onto my side. "I'm tired, I'm going to sleep."

"But Ems-"

"Goodnight, Austin," I said firmly.

He sighed and rolled over to his side of the bed. My eyes started to burn with tears, and I brushed them away angrily. I should be the one going out. I'm stressed and getting ready for the wedding and he's going to hangout with friends when he has nothing going on.... I couldn't help but feel tears drip down my cheeks as I blink.
