309. Cute as a Button: Write about something you think is just adorable.
It's already been a long day. Only three o'clock and I'm ready for bed. Plus, school is out for Thanksgiving and my 6 year old nephew is at our house, getting into all kinds of mischief. My determination to be cheerful is faltering.
Then I go in my room, and see two sheets of paper that have been slipped under my bedroom door. They both have my name written in all caps: "HANNAH."
"They're newspapers," my brother, standing at the door to his bedroom, explains. He watches as I open them.
Once I read the handwritten and brief "news story," I burst out laughing. They even come with darling little illustrations.
"Breaking news!!!! Alert!!!
Gray cat by the name of Little Yittle
caught in a tree!!!!
Rescued by firefighter named Michael!!!!
All in [my town] in shock!!!""House Caught on Fire
House near the mall catches on fire!!!
No one hurt!!!
But the pizza is burnt!!!"Although the newspaper idea was my nephew's, the ones that ended up just inside my door were my brother's creation entirely, down to his almost indecipherable handwriting and reference to our brother, Michael, who is a firefighter.
My brother is 20 years old.
This little treat made me laugh so hard, and my mood brightened immediately. It was just so darn cute. I loved it. I was absolutely charmed by it. Zachary has always been my best friend, and this kind of stuff is why.
Have I mentioned how much I love him lately? I have the best brothers. They make me smile.
