TW: parental death (cancer)

Currently, Alisha is living in Vancouver, British Columbia with her wonderful boyfriend, Quinn. She first met him in Orlando, Florida with your typical next door neighbour story. She and her family lived right next to the Hughes family for all their lives. To say they're old family friends would be an understatement, saying that they were always together.

Orlando, Florida, 2004

"Quinn!" Alisha yelled from across the yard. Right now, she is currently at the Hughes family's house playing in the yard with Quinn while his little brother, Jack, watches from afar by his mother and little brother.

"What!" Quinn yelled back, his eyebrows furrowing in confusion as his eyes diverted over to his best friend.

"Come here!" He ran over to the girl across the yard with confusion written all over his face. "Tag!" She shouted as her hand touched his shoulder. Turning around, she ran as fast as she could across the lawn and towards Jack and Ellen, who's holding a baby Luke Hughes.

Quinn ran after her. With him being a hockey player and all, he was way more athletic than the girl could ever wish to be. By saying that, you could guess that he's, like, 10x faster than her. He lightly pushed her shoulder.

"Tag!" Quinn shouted out.

"Scheiße" Alisha swore. Oh yeah, she's German.

"Alisha! What'd I say about that language!" The girl's mother shouted, her German accent clearer than daylight.

"Sorry ma." She mumbled. When she looked back up, she was met with Quinn smirking. "Fick dich" She spoke to him once she noticed her mother had retreated back into the house. He heard that enough times to know what that means.

Toronto, Ontario, 2010

Now at 11 years old, Alisha's grown to like Quinn more than a friend. The thing is, she could never tell him. She doesn't want to make it awkward at family dinners when the two families get together every once in a while, or every night if you must.

Both of the families moved to Toronto, finding houses close to each other. Quinn and Alisha's dads had been transferred to Toronto for work, so it worked out well. They moved about 4 years ago.

Currently, the families were at one of Quinn's hockey games. Ellen invited them since it was the last of the season. Alisha was so zoned out she didn't even realize it was the end of the game.

"Komm schon, Alisha. Wir müssen runter." My mother spoke.

"Ja, ja." She replied, rolling her eyes. The two speak German to each other rather than English since her mother understands that better.

They all walked down to where the teams come out. Quinn was one of the first to walk out, since he doesn't take to long.

"You played amazing, Quinn!" Ellen said. She walked up and hugged him, which he returned as well as he could with his hockey bag on his arm.

Next, Jim walked up to Quinn. "Congratulations kid." He exclaimed, patting the kid on the head.

This went on for a bit, and Quinn had set his bag down to carry a tired Luke. May I say, it is adorable.

My mother walked up to him, speaking lots of German. "Herzlichen Glückwunsch, Quinn. Du hast sehr gut gespielt, wie deine Eltern erwähnt haben." She spoke. Quinn looked confused, while Alisha started laughing. My mother smiled and shook her head, walking away.

Lastly, Alisha walked up to Quinn. "You played well, is what she was saying." She translated briefly. He nodded in understanding. "Your goal was amazing! How did you manage?" The girl questioned after a moment of silence.
