Today is Connor's first skate as a Blackhawk. I haven't moved to Chicago yet so I'm Facetiming him. I got into the University there before the draft so it all worked out in the end.
"So.." I dragged out as he got into his car to drive to the rink. He glanced down at the screen.
"What? You sound like you wanna say something?" He accused me. I rolled my eyes. "Don't roll your eyes at me!" He complained. He pouted at the screen before driving.
"Are you excited for your first skate as a Blackhawk?" I asked him. A small smile found its way to his face.
"Yeah. I mean, I wish I was back home in Vancouver, but making it to the NHL really shows that all my work really was worth it." He said. I smiled. "Even when I broke my wrist I didn't stop!" He mentioned as if I wasn't his best friend when that happened.
"Con.." I said. "I was literally your best friend when that happened. I trained with you. I'm on my Universities hockey team." I told him and a look of realization came across his face.
"Oh yeahh!" Connor laughed. I shook my head. "I'm at the rink now but I don't wanna hang up on you." He complained.
"Well you have to. Bye and I love you." I said because I don't want him to be late.
"Fine. I love you too and I'll see you in a month." He sighed before hanging up.
Connor's POV
I just finished getting changed and I'm heading onto the ice. Corey brought his son today and apparently he's a big fan of me which is really cool.
Coach is running some drills on me and the other prospects. Corey is here today watching us and I won't lie it's a bit of pressure. Coach waved me over a few minutes in and I skated over and saw Corey and his son. The boy's eyes were wide when he saw me.
I smiled a bit before speaking. "Hey kid. How are you?" I asked him. He was shocked before smiling.
We talked for a bit before I gave him a high five and skated back to practice. I was happy for the rest of the practice at not only having a fan here so soon, but the fact that Mia is gonna be here in Chicago soon.
I had one of the best practices of my life. Not a bad first skate if I do say so myself.
