"Vicky my chain is missing"I said in horror. My eyes started moistening.
"Oops where did it go Amu? Let me search for it"he got up from the rock and started searching for it.
The chain was a birthday gift from my mumma to me. She bought it for me with the bonus she'd got bonus from her salary. My heart started pounding as I started imagining mumma scolding me for loosing the chain
Tears sneaked down my eyes.
"Amu please stop crying. I'll find it for you somehow"Vicky said holding my shoulder.
I cried helplessly. Suddenly he hugged me making me freeze.
"I'll buy you chocolates"he said patting my back. I pushed him away
"Vicky...we are kids. We're not supposed to hug. You can't hug me just like that without my permission"I told him strictly. He chuckled at me
"But you hugged me last night without my permission too sweetheart"he said. My face turned red with embarrassment
"I-I hugged you because-you know I'm scared of thunders. Mumma and dad was not there home. So I got scared"I said, innocently
"Why do you have to be scared. I'm not scared of anything. Mom said I'm a brave boy"he said proudly. I chuckled looking at his face
"Aren't you scared to loose me?"I asked and he looked into my eyes
"You were crying so much when I fell sick last day"I said and he smiled
"Yeah. I can't see you like that. I just want to see you smiling forever"he said.
"But I've lost my chain. Mumma would scold me"I said scaring. He shook his head.
"You go home. I'll find it for you"he said
"Promise?"I asked
"Don't you trust me?"he asked and I nodded my head.
"I'll drop you home. It's already dark"he clasped my little fingers in his and we walked back to my house. I was very scared and didn't confront mumma that evening. I waited impatiently for Vicky. He didn't come.
I waited the whole night but he didn't come. I was now sure that he didn't find it for me. I was angry on him. I unknowingly fell asleep in my bed
"Amu? Amu wake up and see what I've brought for you"someone shaked me in the sleep. I opened my eyes to see Vicky smiling at me. I fumed and pushed him away
"Don't talk to me. I waited for you whole night but you didn't come Vicky. I hate you"I said. His eyes moistened. Then only I saw that his hand was wounded. He had got scratches and I could see tiny drops of blood.
"Vicky what happened to your hands?"I asked touching his hand. He showed me something which was clasped in his palms. I gasped as I saw my chain.
"From where did you get this?"I asked
"I'm sorry Amu. I searched for it everywhere but I couldn't find it. It was already so dark. So I waited till morning to find this and finally found it lying in between thorn bushes. I got inside and took it from there"he said. My eyes welled up with tears
