As a writer it was always a pleasure to be able to get to know people in the world you wanted to recreate within a novel. You'd written about a multitude of things before, but your current novel was based on law enforcement, more specifically the police force in New York City. Most elements of the novel were underway and planned but even if it was a fictitious story you wanted to know that it wasn't as far fetched as some of your work due to there being a real-life basis.

You had spoken to a detective before you had started the layout for the novel, but you needed more people's experiences than just one to have an accurate depiction of the average person there. With a helping hand you had been allowed to meet with the 99th precinct in Brooklyn to interview the detectives and learn more about the way the precinct was run along with the type of people whom worked there.

At the start you had spoken with the Captain and his assistant before moving onto his detectives. As you made your way around the employees of the precinct, you struggled to not keep staring off towards one detective. Detective Rosa Diaz stood out amongst the crowd, maybe not to everyone but to you, she was all you could see. You knew she was secretive and didn't like the people she worked with to no much about her, so you did your best to comply and make it seem as though you had never met her before. In reality, the two of you had been in a relationship for the previous year and a half and even if you wished to shout your love for her from the rooftops, you were glad that you got to keep her to yourself.

Your interview with her was somewhat awkward due to your already knowing her but once it was over, you thanked Captain Holt for allowing you to speak to him and his team, before heading off to leave the precinct. Without thinking, you went to bid farewell to your girlfriend, how you did every morning when she left for work. You went and pecked her cheek before you recalled where you were. Rosa looked terrified by your action as everyone's eyes were pinned onto you.

"Your interview must have been a lot different to the rest of ours," Detective Peralta commented.

Rosa and you looked at each other, not sure who should make the next move, nor knowing what the next move should be.

"Wait..." Detective Boyle announced, jumping up to his feet. "Is this the girlfriend you wouldn't tell any of us anything about?"

She paused before nodding her head. "This is Y/N. We've been dating for the last year."

Detective Boyle made a high-pitched screech that you assumed was mainly audible to canines as he flailed excitedly, knowing his colleague was in a relationship and now having actually met her, which everyone doubted they ever would.
