Getting to know new people wasn't always an easy feat – it was somewhat intimidating as you never knew what they would think of you however you knew you had to socialise at some point.

You had just moved to the evidence analysis department of the 99, which you were enjoying thus far but you only really knew the people that you worked with.

One of the detectives, Amy, often came in to chat with you when she was dropping evidence off and this time, she was adamant that you needed to meet everyone else.

"Amy, honestly, I need to get some work done," you tried to convince her to let go of your wrist.

She shook her head, a smile on her face. "Oh, don't be silly, you've got one piece of evidence to finish and we all know it."

"Or you could just let me go?" you suggested with a hopeful smile.

"You need to meet everyone," she stated. "We don't bite, I promise."

Sighing, you followed Amy more willingly and eventually ended up in the bullpen.

"Everyone!" Amy announced as she walked in. "This is Y/N and she's the newbie from evidence analysis."

They all looked at you in confusion before introducing themselves – Terry came over and shook your hand enthusiastically, Gina came to hug you, Rosa looked disinterested but waves, Hitchcock and Scully both greeted you with their mouths full of food, Charles smiled somewhat awkwardly and Captain Holt gave you a nod of acknowledgement whilst praising your work on the evidence.

Once everyone had sat back down, Amy smiled at you and you went to leave but a hand resting gently on your arm stopped you.

You turned around to see Detective Jake Peralta, the one detective that hadn't gotten up to introduce himself previously.

"Hi," he greeted you with a smile. "I'm Jake Peralta."

Holding your hand out for him to shake, you introduced yourself also. "I'm Y/N Y/L/N, nice to meet you Detective."

Instead of shaking your hand, he held it gently and lifted it up to his lips.

You couldn't help the blush that crossed your face as he kissed your knuckles.

"No need to be so formal Y/N, we all work in the same place," he stated with a smile.

Returning his smile, your blush stayed on your cheeks which caused a smirk to cross Jake's face.

He looked at his watch before shooting you another smile. "I'm guessing that Amy dragged you away from your lunch break?"

You giggled at his question but nodded in agreement. "She spotted that I wasn't doing anything and seized her opportunity," you answered. "She wanted me to socialise."

He chuckled but grabbed his hoodie from his chair, putting it on and then offering you his arm causing you to laugh again.

"So, chivalry isn't dead?" you joked.

Shaking his head, he guided your hand to the crook of his elbow. "I think we should get you socialising more."

Raising your eyebrow in question, Jake chuckled again.

"I am going to take you for some lunch, and you are going to tell me about the exciting job that is evidence analysis."

Giggling you shook your head but agreed, nonetheless. "We'll need to stop at my office so I can grab my purse."

Jake laughed before steering you towards the exit. "Who said you'd be paying?"
