"Dad it's Halloween soon and I haven't even gotten my costume yet!" I say as dad experiments with different metals for his new suit.
"Yeah, Yeah kid I know" dad says obviously not listening to me
Pops been gone a lot lately, something about work. So dads been pretty on edge
"I could say anything right now and you wouldn't listen" I sigh as dad goes on tinkering
"I'm getting a nose piercing." I say and he continues
"I have a secret tattoo!" I say hoping to get a reaction but there's nothing
"I have a boyfriend who is older than me!" I say and he almost looks up at me
"Steve's home" I roll my eyes and he snaps up looking around
"What! Where" dads face perks up
"I was kidding" I laugh
"Miss y/n is correct. Steve is home." Jarvis says
Dad and I go quiet listening for the door to open. Steve hasn't been at the tower for 2 weeks.
"Hey where's my family?" I hear the old man say
Dad and I look at each other happily before racing up the stairs
At the top dad flys past me but I stop. Steve seems different I can't explain It it's just weird. Steve sets down his bags which has his Shield in it?
I can't help but stare at it thinking.
"Hey squirt come 'ere" steve smiles at me and I snap back to reality
"Hey pops" I give my best smile and hug him
"I missed you two" pops says
"Where have you been?" I ask looking at the bag
"A business trip. In dc" he shrugs it off
"Oh?" I say still suspicious
Dad goes on as if everything is back to normal.
"Let's go get some food I'm starving" pops says
"Yeah. Come on kid" dad smiles at me
We go down the elevator and outside of the tower is the same man wearing the black a.i.m. Jacket.
I pull dads jacket and point.
"It's okay kid you've got me" sad says wrapping his arm around me tightly
We make it to the car safely, I can't help but freak out once the door shuts
"Why is he following us!" I yell as we drive
"Someone's following you boss?" Happy says from the front seat
"It's nothing to worry about happy" pops says
"Actually Hogan. He's a man that wears a jacket with the word aim on the back. Keep tabs. Last we saw he was outside the tower" dad says and pops sighs
"I'm sure he's some crazy fan or something" pops reassures dad
"I really don't think so pops" I say
"I'll keep an eye on him tony" happy nods
We get out of the car and go to our favorite table in our restaurant dad bought.
We stay for what seems like forever just talking and laughing. Suddenly the tv in the corner of the room becomes loud and our heads snap to see the live scene that had just unfolded. A foreign looking man with a booming scary voice sits on a throne in a dark room.
He mumbles about teaching America a lesson and he's the mandarin.
"Dad what's going on?" I look up at him and fear covers his eyes. His arm around me grips tighter
The message on the tv ends but nobody speaks or moves.
"Dad" I whisper but he doesn't move
"Pops?" I go to tap Steve who is staring at the table. As I get closer to touching him he jumps out of his trance grabbing my hand. Suddenly everyone is panicked and scared.
"We should leave" pops mutters and dad gets up without saying a word
I call happy and he's there for us immediately.
"You guys must've seen it too then" happy says looking spooked
"Yeah" I sigh
"It was nothing I'm sure of it" steve shakes his head
"You sure" dad mutters
"Yeah.." steve tries to be positive
I think dad is just scared because he's worried about me.
We get home and go up the elevator and to our rooms.
I leave my door open a crack hearing my parents.
"You have work tomorrow?" Dad asks
"Yes." Steve states
"And you're going to leave us. Okay yeah that's fine." Dad says sarcastically
"Tony-"
"No steve back off. All that's going on right now and you have work!?" Dad goes off
"Tony do you forget who you are. Iron man isn't dependent on anyone"
"He isn't. But I am" tony sighs letting his soft side come through
"Nothing will happen. You and y/n will be okay" Steve sighs reassuring dad
"I can't listen to that bull anymore. I wanted to say that before and think it was true. I wanted a great life for that little girl. It was a new start for me. And then what? New York happened and screwed that up" dad yells knocking something over
"Tony please."
"I'm going to get a drink" tony gives a chuckle out of anger and stalks down the stairs.
Steve gives a loud sigh.
As soon as dad is gone I go into their room. Steve is on the edge of the bed with his hand on his forehead
"Steve" I say and he looks up
"Y/n" he nods me over
"Don't worry about what dad says. He's just worried" I frown
"Yeah. I know" he says
"Can we watch a movie" I ask
"It's really late though" he smiles
"I'll go to sleep I promise. I just. Can't" I shrug
"You're definitely Tony's child" he says with a small chuckle
We cuddle up in a fluffy blanket and he puts on Cinderella.
I drift to sleep hearing Steve humming he words to a dream is a wish your heart makes.
At one point I wake up when the bed shifts.
Dad finally came home and Steve put him to bed next to me.
"Night Love" Steve yawns as tony passes out
I find it amazing how just a small time ago they were fighting. But then I realized. They have true love.
True love is two imperfect people refusing to give up on each other, the ups and downs make the Love come back stronger each time.
