Chapter 7- So Many Birthdays

Blare's Pov

We were currently walking through the junk yard that Amethyst called her room, since it seemed to be the origin of the horrid smell that had been wafting through the temple and Steven's living space. 

"How could you live like this?" Pearl asked appalled by the state of Amethyst room. "It was fine until you guys started whining."  Amethyst replied unaffected by the smell in the temple.

"Amethyst I know it's not our place to judge but could you at least look through this stuff once in a while. Maybe we could avoid situations like this in the future." I lightly suggested while covering my nose.  "Yeah yeah whatever." Amethyst replied waving her hand at me dismissively. 

"I found it!" Steven yelled to us I couldn't help but to feel excited. Relief from this horrid smell was so close, but my curiosity was also peaked by what could possibly cause such a smell.  Pearl was the first approach Steven, "What matter of magical alloy is this?" 

Steven opened the wrapper and a green smog was released. "It's a Burrito." Garnet identified. " It's the tuna burrito from Aqua Mexican." Amethyst clarified as she looked at it with a sense of nostalgia. "That place closed like five years ago." Steven said but Amethyst took a bite of it anyway. 

I felt sick watching her chew the 5 year old burrito. The very sight of it made me want to barf; I found myself thinking a little differently about Amethyst in that moment as she continued to eat the burrito. 

"Oh Steven that is us!" I heard Pearl say pulling me out of my disgusted trance. I turned to look at the picture they were looking at.  I walked a little closer to get a better look. It was a picture of the Crystal Gems with Garnet at the front punching a shark. It was an amazing picture. 

I couldn't help but feel a little sad that I couldn't come to Earth sooner. It would have saved me a lot of suffering and pain, but at the same time it was amazing to see the gems in the photograph.  "Why are they dressed like old timey people, and where is Blare?" 

"That's because they are old timey people" Pearl answered. "Also I wasn't apart of the Crystal Gems at the time." I replied as confusion took over Steven's face. "But I thought you were always apart of the Crystal Gems.  How old are you guys?" Steven asked a spark of curiosity flickering through his eyes. 

"Much older than any human!" Pearl stated proudly couldn't help but to laugh since I was the oldest out of all of them. If they knew that they would definitely question me. "Does that mean you can live forever?" Steven asked excitedly.

 "No no we don't age but we can still get hurt and die." Pearl said completely crushing Steven's spirits. "Technically we can live forever though as long as we don't get hurt badly." I interjected which thankfully boosted Steven's spirits.

Then Amethyst started groaning and holding her stomach tightly. "But not from food poisoning," Pearl quickly added as she quickly glanced at Amethyst.  "Looks like you and that five year old burrito are getting along quite well." I commented kneeling beside her with a smirk on my face. 

"I just can't believe you guys are like a bizillion years old. How do you find a cake big enough for all those candles?" Steve asked. We all looked at each other before Garnet replied, "We don't really celebrate birthdays." Steven gasped as if we had committed the worst crime on Earth.

"Why not?!" Steven yelled. "It's not our way." Garnet replied shrugging her shoulders while me and Pearl were still trying to understand why it was so important. " I can't just ignore this injustice. I pledge that you will have your birthdays, with all the   candy, cake, and ice cream you've been denied." Steven stated proudly before Amethyst lost her fight with her tuna burrito.
