day 9

It was time for lunch, today's meal had been prepared by Hana. She used to cook for her mother all the time but the recipes she knew were pretty rudimentary. She had made a large pot of hearty vegetable soup that she basically used to live off of.

"You'll sit next to me, won't you?" Hana asked (Y/n) quietly as she helped Hana with ladling the liquid into nine bowls.

"Sure, if you want." (Y/n) accepted, not thinking much of it.

Hana had noticed that (Y/n) seemed a bit down that day, she had also seemed sad the day before but Hana was too much of a coward to ask her. 'What if she thinks I'm being pushy? She'll think I'm some obsessive weirdo! W-which I'm not... I just don't want her to be sad but I bet I'd be no good at cheering her up anyway.'

She just wanted to see (Y/n) smile, (Y/n) would never understand how happy she made Hana and Hana could only dream of doing the same for her beloved.

"Is everyone else coming?" (Y/n) asked as she replaced the lid over the main pot as all nine bowls were now full.

"I'm not sure... I'm sorry for not knowing."

"That's okay." (Y/n) said. "The soup is still pretty hot but hopefully they'll be here soon."

Hana nodded, her yellow eyes hazed over as she thought about what would happen if none of them showed up. She could just lock the door and then it would only be her and (Y/n), the way Hana always wanted things to be.

But of course she couldn't do that. That would be terribly terribly selfish. (Y/n) was a gem, a gift from above... Hana didn't feel anywhere near deserving enough to be in her presence.

'But I'm greedy, too greedy to understand that my true place in the world is far far below (Y/n). I'm disgusting and greedy for wanting her like this.' Hana told herself firmly.

Soon enough the dining room filled up, Owen was first to arrive and was quick to slotted himself into the chair next to (Y/n)'s seat that wasn't occupied by Hana.

Max, Angelo and Bella sat in the other chairs, not caring much for where they were. Both Tim and Dottie were a bit disappointed that the seats surrounding (Y/n) were taken but still sat down.

Eli on the other hand had more stubbornness in his veins than he did blood and wouldn't stand for this. He walked up to where Hana was sat and stood behind her chair.

"Move."

Hana turned to look at him, no fear displayed in her eyes. In fact they looked totally empty, she didn't say a word back to him.

"Move." Eli restated with more emphasis.

"There's an empty seat right over there." (Y/n) caught onto the interaction and pointed to an empty space on the other side of the table between Tim and Bella. Hana blushed as (Y/n) defended her, it gave her a warm and fuzzy feeling inside though she also felt bad because (Y/n) was the one who needed defending.

"Well, I want this one. Hana can go sit there." Eli huffed like a child demanding a new toy.

"Eli, just go sit down." Tim didn't like Eli at the best of times but watching him try to insert himself next to (Y/n) was nothing short of infuriating.
