day 92

(Y/n) yawned tiredly as she opened the door to the living room, she had woken up early again but decided instead of lingering in her room she would go downstairs, she didn't have much longer here and even though (Y/n) had been wishing to leave since her first day there was part of her that would miss this place... Was that bad?

If she had to choose between leaving with one of them and staying here but everyone got to live she probably wouldn't hesitate in choosing to stay. But perhaps (Y/n) only thought that way becuase she liked to think she was far less selfish than she actually was.

When she walked into the living room a sense of nostalgia hit her. A large box was in the middle of the room, it had been quite a while since (Y/n) had helped unpack. They hadn't let her help for so long and by the time she accepted them she had forgotten about the process.

She approached it and unfolded the top, food and toiletries filled it. (Y/n) felt bad to think that this was the last one they'd ever receive but was in a way glad to be there to see it.

(Y/n) started to remove the objects from the box, organising the items between what room they needed to go to and for the food she made sure that all the perishables had been appropriately refrigerated.

"You don't need to do that." A raspy yet gentle voice came from behind her. (Y/n) knew instantly who it belonged to.

"I want to." (Y/n) turned to face Hana who didn't put up much resistance after that statement.

"Okay... Let me help you?"

"Sure."

Hana went up to (Y/n)'s side and assisted in sorting out the contents of the box.

"This is far more efficient than what Tim has us do." Hana mentioned.

(Y/n) smiled a bit as she could imagine him overcomplicating the simple task.

The two women kept going mostly in silence aside from a lone comment here and there. They next moved onto the kitchen and started putting the stuff away there.

"I know you're probably sick of talking about this... But we need to talk about what's happening next week." Hana said cautiously, her amber eyes were scanning (Y/n) for any traces of discomfort.

"No, you're right. I want to give you all the opportunity to say what you want me to know before then, it's unfair otherwise."

"It doesn't have to be fair." Hana muttered. "It just has to be what you want."

"I'd feel guilty not giving everyone a chance..." (Y/n) trailed off, there was more that she wished to say but it didn't matter much to someone with a strong bias.

"Well, you already know what I want."

(Y/n) wasn't all that interested in repeating the same conversation she'd been subjected to several times ever since the Gamemaster made this announcement. "I do... I know what all of you want so you don't need to-"

"(Y/n)..." Hana grabbed (Y/n)'s hands and looked down at them and then to her (e/c) eyes. "I swear to you that if you take me with you, I will let you live as you wish as long as you do it with me. They... The rest of them they-they'll try to suppress you... They're selfish and they want you all to themselves a-and I know I can be that way too but I'm willing to allow you to have you're own life... I'm willing to let you have friends and a job and do as you please, I just want to be with you, I don't want to cut you off from the world. I-I'm scared you'll choose one of them and you'll be trapped forever... Don't do that to yourself..."

Hana squeezed her eyes shut to prevent the tears that were brewing from falling, but when she opened them they were watery nonetheless. "I hate what we've done to you, I hate that I helped them for so long. I hate that you love all for them becuase they don't deserve it! I don't deserve it either... No one does, but at least I want what's best for you. I know I can be selfish and do bad things becuase of love but I'm not as bad as them... I know it's a bad leg to stand on but..." She paused and abandoned that train of thought. "You're confused becuase of the environment you've been forced into, but trust me, (Y/n), you want to be free. Don't listen to what they say, they won't make you happy, they'll make you go crazy." Hana put her hands on (Y/n)'s face. "Please do what's best for yourself."

"Hana, I... I don't know." (Y/n) felt foolish for saying that but Hana understood, (Y/n) couldn't think properly when the only information she was receiving was in direct opposition from sources she trusted equally. It was hard to see common sense when things had been taken this far.

Hana wished more than anything that she could have stopped this long ago, she wished that she could've prevented Tim from starting this in the first place. She despised what this situation had turned both her and (Y/n) into.

(Y/n) had Hana'a words on her mind. She was pretty far gone at this point but not so far gone that they didn't make some impact on her.

Liberation.

Freedom.

Independence.

Liberty.

Autonomy.

Regardless of how one wished to define it the very fact meant several things in (Y/n)'s mind. Some positive, some negative but none could draw her to a direct conclusion.

It was infuriating that the more she thought about it the more circles she ran around in. Thinking about choosing Hana made her think about choosing Tim, which made her think about choosing Owen, which made her think about choosing Eli, which her made her think about choosing Dottie and that made her think about choosing Hana.

And thus the vicious cycle would continue.

"What are you thinking about?" Eli asked softly while stroking his hand over (Y/n)'s head that was resting in his lap.

"Um... Hypothetically, if we were to get off the island together then would I be... Free?"

"What do you mean by free?" Eli frowned at the word and (Y/n) knew right now how it was going to go.

"Forget it... It doesn't matter..."

"No, no, no, I want to know what you mean." He urged her to elaborate on her earlier question.

"Oh, well, I guess I mean will I be able to do what I want? Like will you let me see other people and leave the house when I want?"

Eli snickered a bit and then resumed running his fingers through (Y/n)'s clean and soft locks of (h/c) hair.

"Well?"

"Oh... I thought you were joking." He said in surprise. "Of course not, do you know how dangerous that is? There are so many dickheads out there who'd try to take you from me, I can't fucking let that happen. Ever. It's for your own good, I thought you knew that."

"I do know that, I... I was just wondering." (Y/n) mumbled.

"You shouldn't think about that stupid stuff, you're really an idiot if you think that's a good idea." Eli leaned down a pecked (Y/n)'s cheek, her caressed that spot he had kissed adoringly. "It's a good thing you have me to stop you from doing all that dumb shit."
