day 51

Max was visibly nervous, even shaking a little bit. "What were you doing with them?" He glanced back at (Y/n)'s door that Eli and Dottie had just left through.

"Nothing... What's up? You've been ignoring me and-"

"I'm sorry about that, I've just been thinking a lot lately." He pulled at some of his own light brown hair. "About Angelo specifically."

(Y/n) nodded solemnly. "I know Bella didn't do it." She said. "The Gamemaster told me yesterday after the meeting."

"What??" Max's head flicked up in alarm. "You spoke to the Gamemaster? How?"

"I came up here and a message popped up, I said something back and he responded." She explained. "It was short but he told me that Bella didn't kill Angelo, he didn't tell me who did."

"That fucker knows and he's not telling us!" Max spat in frustration. "I just wanted to check how you were feeling with everything with you and Owen."

"... We're cool now. I'm still annoyed he did that but forgive and forget, right? I don't know..." (Y/n) was clearly still unsure about how she felt about the whole thing. "I still want to get over my fear of the sea but I'm scared the second I go in there someone's gonna come running out thinking that I'm trying to drown myself."

"I think it's best you take things at your own pace... And (Y/n)?"

"Yes?"

"If the Gamemaster says anything else to you then I want you to find me straight away." He said seriously.

"Got it."

Max nodded and smiled softly at her. "Great, again I'm really sorry about the last few days I've-"

"There's been a lot going on. It's fine, Max, next time just tell me if you need some time alone instead of cutting me off." She walked towards him and the two friends shared and hug. "I've got your back no matter what." (Y/n) said.

"No matter what."

It was that night that (Y/n) lay awake in bed, restless. All her fears culminated into one big storm of blurry memories and possible futures.

Any one of her friends was a murderer and possibly even worse: any one of them could be the next to go... Or even she could be next. The possibility of losing yet another player haunted her.

She sat up and got out of bed in a hurry. She couldn't be alone with her thought for much longer.

(Y/n) grabbed a towel and and left her room, the hallway was dark but from the time she'd spent there she could navigate the hallways down to the front door quite easily. Gone were the days when she needed a map to get around, it was quite sad how familiar she'd become with the house.

She went outside, it was a warm night so (Y/n) didn't get too cold when she removed her nightwear leaving her in her underwear. She left the clothes and towel in a heap on the shore and stepped closer to the relatively calm water.

Her breaths were shaky before she stepped in, the edges of waves barely teased the tips of her toes. (Y/n) squeezed her eyes shut before taking her first step to get ankle deep into the water. A small gasp left her and she desperately wanted to turn back but she rooted her feet the ground.
