He chatted with his driver the entire ride home, settling on the schedule for the week, catching up on the latest sports news.

He quickly showered and headed to bed once he got home.  Lying in the dark he recalled every instance of the afternoon, thinking to himself this had been one of the happiest days of his life.

As he prepared for bed, his eyes fell to the book of poetry.  He kept the original copy Dae had given him on his bedside table.  He had memorized them all, saw the illustrations and photographs clearly in his mind's eye.  Still he loved to leaf thru the book before bed each night.

Tonight, he knew exactly the poem he needed.  It was the first one he read as he settled on the plane bringing Dae home from Paris.  It was the one that always awakened the deep ache within him.

He laid back into the pillows and opened the book to the exact page.  His long elegant fingers caressed the pages as he read the words

My soul in shambles,
Bound by whispered “different"
When you say with gentle hands
“Your hidden calls to me"
My heart, with JOY, will know
The truth louder than every lie

He blinked as he read the words a second, then third time.

He frowned in deep thought.  Tonight, there was not the usual aftertaste of melancholy.  Tonight the words stuck a deeper chord, A sense of satisfaction, of completion, drifted over him.

“Your hidden calls to me,” he whispered with a drowsy smile as he settled deeper in the pillows.
He fell asleep with his arms tightly hugging his pillow and a huge grin on his beautiful face.  None of his dreams were a match for his reality that day.

Sky however had stumbled home, blinded by the tears streaming down her face.

Regret was already gnawing at her as she opened to door to the tiny room.

She frowned, cursing herself.  She had been gone too long and the temperature inside the room was almost as cold as the air swirling outside.

Her companion was curled on his mat, there were not enough blankets to keep him warm these days.

She forced herself to move to him, soothing him and placing her coat, still warm with her body heat, to cover him.  She busied herself building a fire and making tea to warm him.

By the time she had finished everything she had to do she sunk to the floor, barely making it to her side of the mat before she felt her control slipping.

She fell asleep in the grip of grief even too great for tears.

The next several weeks were a rush of appointments and construction meetings and shopping for just the right furnishings.

All of this was on top of his growing pile of clearances and paperwork for the new contracts Dae was signing weekly.  Tae had always thrived in the hustle of his job and he was in his element these days.

But he worried.  He had not seen Sky since that night, not since she kissed him and stole his breath and then disappeared into the dark, tugging his heart along behind her like a child's balloon on a string.

He asked around the café and a couple of waiters said they had seen her at odd times.  That eased his worries a bit.

He had been working odd hours. He rationalized that she was avoiding the area because of the increased construction noise and chaos.  Recalling how anxious she seemed as he told her, it seemed the logical explanation.

After a month of construction, the work had come to an end.

Dae had banned Taehyung from the café for the last five days.  He agreed only after making an agreement with Nev that if Sky appeared, he would be called immediately.  Nev agreed, hiding his concern from the young man.

The girl had not been there in weeks.  He stopped before asking if Tae had done something to frighten her.  The concern on his face assured the older man that she was in no danger from Tae.  Rather, he worried that something had changed and Tae was the one in danger of heartache.

However, he kept his own counsel and hoped for both his young friends that the girl would visit soon.
