I Need You

"No, you stay there!"

Haruki ignored Masumi as he screamed his head off from within the confines of his cot, rejecting the toys around him in favour of throwing a fit at being imprisoned. In a bassinet not too far from Masumi's cot, Sora lay swaddled in blankets as Haruki painstakingly undressed and bathed Riku in a small tub she had set up in the living room, before quickly drying him off and changing him into new clothes so that she could get Sora bathed and changed before they had their final bottles before bed.

It was nearing half past eight, and although Haruki loved her children, she was counting down the minutes to when all three of them would finally go to sleep and be out of her hair, even if only for a few hours. It had only been three days since Namiko had embarked on her trip, and during that span of time both Mikoto and Hiashi had paid Haruki and her family visits.

Soon, the twins were bathed, fed, and put to sleep in their bassinet in Haruki and Shisui's room; not too long after, Masumi followed suit, and was tucked into his parent's bed by an exhausted Haruki.

Her mind running at a thousand miles per hour as she went through her mental list of things she still had to do- such as tidying up the twins' bath things, cleaning up the mess in the kitchen from Masumi's dinner, and preparing bottles to last the twins throughout the night- Haruki could only sigh as she stood over Masumi's slumbering figure. As she did, she couldn't help but stare wistfully at her eldest son as he slept soundly with his pacifier hanging out of his agape mouth.

With his vivacious personality that he had clearly inherited from his father, Masumi was a bundle of joy for Haruki- regardless of how difficult he was to tame sometimes. For the time being, Sora and Riku were relatively easy to take care of- all they did was eat, sleep, poop, and lie around, and they woke up at the same times every night, making it easier for Haruki to fall into a routine and set alarms so that she could wake up before they did.

However, just because they were easier to look after than Masumi, it didn't mean things were easy in general for Haruki.

The Hyūga slowly sat on the other side of the bed, facing away from Masumi as she leaned back and faced the ceiling with her eyes closed.

She missed Shisui.

She didn't know why- she'd spent much longer times separated from him when they were younger, yet she'd never felt this helpless and lonely before.

In the past, three months without Shisui would have gone past in the blink of an eye; but now, it felt like it had been an eternity since she had last heard from her husband, let alone seen him.

Who knew she would've missed his embrace so much?

His smile?

His words of reassurance?

Even his lame jokes, that could now be qualified as "dad jokes"?

Haruki bit her lip as she felt a swell of emotions rise up from within her, tears threatening to spill from her eyes if she didn't do anything to quell them.

"Fuck it," whispered Haruki to herself as she lay down next to Masumi, letting the waterworks fall from her eyes. "Come back home soon, Shisui. I miss you."

She lifted her hands to her face as she soon broke down into quiet sobs, still careful so as not to disturb any of the children.

Come back home, Shisui. I miss you.

I need you.
